Step 1
Wash and cut all of your potatoes into fry shape using your crinkle cutter. Obviously you can use a knife if you want but the crinkle cutter makes for a better result in the fryer because there is more surface area to get crispy. I've linked the crinkle cutter I use above, it's only $8.
Step 2
Add your potatoes to a bowl of salted water. You don't need to go crazy with the salt here, just throw some in. Allow the potatoes to soak at least 20 minutes.
Step 3
Drain the water from the potatoes and spread out onto a couple of paper towel lined sheet pans. Pat the potatoes dry and salt lightly. Remove the paper towels and make sure the potatoes are in a single layer. Add to the freezer on the pans and allow to flash freeze until frozen solid. This is important for proper storage so the potatoes don't stick together when you put them in the bag.
Step 4
Once frozen, transfer the potatoes into a ziplock bag and you can store them inside of Snack City in your freezer.
Step 5
To cook the fries I preheat the air fryer to 400°F and add the frozen fries for 10-12 minutes depending on how many I am making.
Step 6
Shake the basket around once or twice during the cooking process and pull them out when they have reached your preferred doneness level. I find I don't need to use any oil but if you wanted to spray the top with oil during the cooking, have away.
Step 7
If you don't use any oil these are just plain potatoes so for tracking purposes you would just need to weigh out your portion and track as a russet potato. For this recipe I decided to use a 150g serving for the nutrition information. That's roughly a large handful of the frozen fries.
