Step 1

Heat a large skillet over MED HIGH/HIGH heat. Add a drizzle of vegetable oil, and once hot, add buns, cut side down. Cook for 30 seconds to a minute (this time will vary), or until golden brown on the bottoms.

Step 2

Remove to a wire cooling rack, cut sides up.

Step 3

Heat a small drizzle of oil in large skillet over MED-HIGH heat.  Add ground beef and cook, breaking apart into crumbles as it cooks, about 5 minutes, or until cooked through.  Transfer to colander to drain if necessary (depending on the leanness of your ground beef this may not be needed).

Step 4

Return beef to the same skillet.

Step 5

To the skillet, add sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, ketchup, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, rice vinegar, dried onion, garlic powder, ground ginger, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.

Step 6

Cook for 1-2 minutes on MED heat, until sauce has thickened a bit, to your desired consistency.

Step 7

Remove skillet from the heat, and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.

Step 8

Serve over the toasted buns as a sandwich, or however you'd like.
