Fresh Apple Brownies are Packed With Flavor

Preheat the oven to 350 F. Grease and flour an 8-by-8-inch baking pan. Peel and core the apples. Chop the apples finely. In a mixing bowl with an electric mixer, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the egg and blend well. Add the vanilla and mix thoroughly. Add apples and pecans; stir until blended. In a bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Stir the dry ingredients into the first mixture. Spread the batter in the prepared baking pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until firm. Cool completely and sift confectioners' sugar over the brownies, if desired. Cut into squares for serving.
