Ingredients: 1 liter water, boiled; 8 teaspoons sugar; 1 teaspoon salt; lemon juice (optional); lemonade (optional); mashed banana (good for potassium) (optional)

This is one of those recipes that everyone should know. It tastes terrible, but it works miracles. It is designed to keep people hydrated. It was created by Canadian researchers. UNICEF embraced it, and a commercial version is now distributed widely (mostly free of charge). Each year it is credited with saving the lives of at least a million children. I lived in the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia and it was a Godsend in all locations. A litre and a quart are about the same in size. 
The ingredient list includes some options to make this taste better, but I have found that people who really need it, think it tastes okay as is. Don't use all the options -- just one.
Also, please don't review on taste -- review on results. Namely -- did the user not have to go to hospital to be rehydrated.

Stir in sugar and salt, and let them dissolve.

Peggy, I have to tell you, this recipe saved us from a ton of misery. We recently came back from Central America with a mysterious illness. We WERE hospitalized, but when we we allowed to go home the doctor stressed how important it was to get hydrated. Half of our pain was from dehydration, so I mixed up a large batch of this and we all sipped it for a whole day. By that evening we all felt significantly better! I give credit to this rehydration drink!! I am sure that it helped us get over our illness much faster. Within an hour of drinking it, we noticed a great improvement. I added the lemon and for my daughter's drinks I added lemonade. Thank you for a WONDERFUL remedy!!! :)
