Step 1

Place the granulated sugar on a plate. Dip just the rims of the glasses in water, then dip in the sugar.

Step 2

In a cocktail shaker, combine the cognac, cointreau, lemon juice and ice. Shake for 10-20 seconds to chill thoroughly, then strain into two martini or coupe glasses. Garnish with an orange or lemon twist.
