Step 1
Using a mortar and pestle, pound cloves until lightly crushed. Place cloves, apple, sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice in a saucepan. Add 6 cups cold water. Bring to the boil over medium-high heat.
Step 2
Boil for 5 minutes or until apple has softened. Strain into a heatproof jug. Pour into glasses. Serve with apple.
