American Toad in a hole is one of the first recipes I had my children prepare when they were learning to cook. Much easier than the European version, this fun egg-in-a-hole is sure to please. My "little ones" are now grown (and have advanced to more difficult recipes!), but this continues to be a traditional standby in my home and theirs. &mdash;Ruth Lechleiter, Breckenridge, Minnesota

Now listen. I donand#039;t know what that is, but it isnand#039;t Toad in the Hole. My 5 year old son can complete the steps to make a Toad in the Hole and canand#039;t even write. All you have to do is mix equal volumes of egg/flour/milk, put some sausages in a pan, pout over the batter and cook. It isnand#039;t rocket science. That thing is an abomination and is the sort of thing that starts wars. Call Iand#039;m something like andquot;egg in breadandquot; if you must make it. Even better, make proper Toad in the Hole.

My mom used to make these for us but it was called eggs in a basket.  Yum.  When I make them I save the cutout  bread and brown it in the skillet too.

Just made this with my kids they loved it. We used to call it Sledgehammer bread because in the tv series Sledgehammer he used to toss the bread in the air and shoot a hole in and catch it in the pan. Brings back great memories. Ps. I’m a South African and we know it as Toad in a Hole!

Name aside (this is the correct name in America people relax) I can’t believe you said to throw away the middle piece of bread, you’re supposed to toast that and dip it in your egg!

My mother called this bunny in the hole. I have no idea why...but I have such wonderful memories of her serving us this for breakfast.

Cheater way to make eggs in the microwave from 1975! Lol  No name either, just when we wanted an egg with a runny middle, we made it this way.

Interesting that i found this recipe after looking for what Iron Chef Guarnaschelli called an egg in the middle of pumpernickel bread “toad in a hole”

One of our favorite breakfast recipes! We cook the Hole in butter and eat it with syrup or jelly.
