Step 1
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Make a well in the middle and pour in the warm milk, egg, and melted butter.

Whisk the liquid ingredients first, then gently mix in the dry ingredients until you no longer see streaks of flour.

Optional: Let the batter rest for 30 minutes.
