Step 1
Using just 1/4 cup of milk add this to a bowl with cornstarch and using a fork or whisk stir together.
Step 2
Whisk the rest of the milk in a small saucepan pot, with the salt, and sugar.
Step 3
Heat this mixture heating until it starts to get some heat but do not boil it.
Step 4
In a clean large bowl, whisk the eggs then slowly whisk in the warm milk from the saucepan whisking constantly into the eggs for around 2 minutes.
Step 5
Add the egg yolk mixture back to the saucepan pot, then add in cornstarch mixture.
Step 6
Keep whisking this mixture on medium heat until this pudding thickened.
Step 7
Once it's thick add the butter and vanilla and pour into a serving dish covered with wax paper (this keeps it from forming a skin).
Step 8
This is now ready to be chilled or cooled to warm to eat and can also be used to fill cakes.
