Amish Wedding Cake

Step 1

Twice sift the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Step 2

Beat egg whites till foamy.

Step 3

Add the 6 tablespoons sugar one tablespoon at a time, beating until mixture stands in soft peaks.

Step 4

Cream shortening and add sugar gradually.

Step 5

Cream till lightly and fluffy.

Step 6

Add flour alternately with milk, a small amount at a time.

Step 7

Add egg whites and flavorings.

Step 8

Beat thoroughly, about one minute.

Step 9

Pour into greased 9 X 13 cake pan and bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
