How To Crochet a Solid Granny Square

Step 1

Ch 3, counts as 1st double crochet + base chain.Round 1: dc 2 in 3rd ch from hook (base ch), *ch 2, 3 dc in base ch*, repeat from *to* 3 times, ch 2, sl st in 1st st (=20 st).

Step 2

Note:To change color: Fasten off, cut yarn, and make slip knot with new color. Continue with same color: sl st loosely in next ch-space and ch 2 (counting as the first dc on next round. When you come back to the place where you did the sl st, make sure you crochet into each of the stitches the sl st covers.Do the same for all following rounds.

Step 3

Round 2: *2 dc in next ch-2-sp, ch 2, dc 2 in same ch-2-sp, dc 1 in the next 3 st*, repeat from *to* 3 times, sl st in 1st st (=36 st).

Step 4

Round 3: *2 dc in next ch-2-sp, ch 2, dc 2 in same ch-2-sp, dc 1 in each st until next ch-sp*, repeat from *to* 3 times, sl st in 1st st (=52 st).If you want to make a bigger solid granny square, repeat round 3 until you reach desired size.
