Wild Ahi Tuna takes on a wonderful flavor with a sweet and sour marinade of orange and lemon juice, soy sauce, sesame oil, and fresh ginger. Blanketed between Asian Slaw and Cilantro Pistachio Pesto make extra-special tacos.

Marinated Ahi Tuna Tacos

Zest and juice of 1 Cara Cara orange, or navel

lemon

soy sauce

olive oil

sesame oil

shallot, diced

garlic, grated

fresh parsley, chopped

ginger,

black pepper

¾ tuna

– 12 flour or corn tortillas

In a large, rimmed dish whisk together orange zest and juice, lemon zest and juice, soy sauce, olive oil, sesame oil, shallot, garlic, parsley, ginger, and black pepper.

Place tuna steaks in the marinade and turn to coat. Cover and refrigerate at least 30 minutes and up to 2 hours.

Preheat grill or large skillet over medium-high heat. Place the tuna on the grill rack or in skillet and sear, without moving the steaks, for 2 minutes. Turn the steaks over and sear, again without moving them, for 1 ½ minutes more.

Transfer to a cutting board and let rest for 5 minutes. If you’d like tuna steaks more pink in the center, cook an additional 1 ½ minutes per side.

Grill tortillas about 30 seconds on each side. Cover to keep warm.

Thinly slice tuna and serve with warm tortillas, Asian Red Cabbage Slaw, Cilantro Pistachio Pesto, sesame seeds, and squeeze of lime. Enjoy!

Serve immediately or refrigerate covered for up to 2 hours before serving. Toss to recombine in the sauce before serving.

Simple Seared Ahi Tuna Recipe - Your go-to seared ahi tuna recipe!  So simple and always delicious!

Simple Seared Ahi Tuna Recipe (Whole30 + Paleo)

(2) 1 inch tuna steaks

salt

pepper

Teaspoons sesame seeds

Sprinkle each side with salt, pepper and 1 teaspoon of sesame seeds per side.

Pat seasoning into each side to make sure they stick.

Take large cast iron skillet and add oil.

When oil just starts to smoke, place tuna steaks in skillet.

Cook for 30-45 seconds per side (or up to 1 minute if you just barely want it rare in the middle).

Remove and let rest on clean plate for 5 minutes.

Serve immediately with sauce of choice (see notes below).

I've had seared ahi tuna in restaurants many times, but this is my first try at home. Very simple, but oh, so delicious!

Simple Seared Ahi Tuna

Here's the most amazing Marinated Seared Ahi you can make at home! It's bursting with flavor, super easy to make, and fantastic as an appetizer or healthy dinner.

Marinated Seared Ahi Tuna

TB regular strength soy sauce

TB lemon juice

TB Asian toasted sesame oil (found in the Asian aisle)

garlic powder

sugar

tsp kosher salt

tsp black pepper

cilantro (green scallions, sesame seeds

Marinade

Marinade: In a bowl, whisk together the first 7 ingredients to make a marinade. Towel dry tuna steaks and place in a glass or ceramic dish. Pour marinade over the fish, turning to coat well throughout. Cover tightly and chill several hours to overnight; turn fish over at least once in the middle of marinade time.

Sear

Sear: Heat 3 TB oil in a large heavy skillet (aluminum or stainless steel; not nonstick) until oil is smoking. Sear ahi steaks 1 1/2 minutes per side on high heat, taking care to flip carefully with a flat, steel spatula. (If your tuna is less than 1 1/2 inches thick, sear for only 1 minute per side.)

Rest/Cool

Rest/Cool: Transfer seared ahi to a large cutting board and let rest/cool 10 minutes. Use a very sharp (serrated works well) knife to slice thinly across the grain.

Serve

Serve: Serve chilled or at room temp, over your favorite salad greens or crispy Asian salad. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and cilantro or green onions, if desired. Drizzle with Sriracha mayo if desired.

This Avocado Mango Tuna Poke Salad Bowl recipe swaps out sushi rice for greens and is a ‘how-to’ build your own healthy poke bowl!  

Avocado Mango Tuna Poke Salad Bowl

¼ small Sweet Onion (– finely diced (about 3 TBS))

Green Onions (– thinly sliced)

TBS Low Sodium Soy Sauce

TBS Mirin

tsp Sesame Oil

Hawaiian Sea Salt (to taste)

Sushi-grade Tuna (–

Cup Seaweed Salad

Avocado (– sliced)

¼ English Cucumber (– diced)

Mango (– peeled, cored & roughly chopped)

Lime (juiced)

TBS Honey

tsp Mirin

¾ tsp Sesame Oil

1-3 TBS Water (as needed*)

Prepare the dressing: In the bowl of a food processor, add the mango, lime juice, honey, mirin, sesame oil, sriracha and 1/8 tsp salt. Process until completely smooth. With the motor running stream in water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is achieved (SEE NOTES). Taste and adjust for seasoning.

Prepare the Tuna Poke: In a medium bowl, combine the onion through the sesame oil.  Season with a generous pinch of salt and whisk well to combine.  Add the cubed tuna and toss gently to combine.

Assemble the salad: In a serving bowl, add the lettuce, seaweed salad, avocado and cucumber.  Top with the tuna poke mixture and optional toppings .  Drizzle with dressing.  Enjoy!

Sesame Seared Tuna Sushi Bowls

tbsp black sesame seeds

tbsp white sesame seeds

¼ tsp black pepper

tsp sesame oil (divided)

sushi rice

½ avocado (thinly sliced)

edamame (shelled)

nori strips

jalapeno (thinly sliced)

tbsp green onions (chopped)

½ tsp togarashi

sesame sauce

Combine the black and white sesame seeds with the salt and pepper in a shallow bowl.

Rub each piece of tuna with ½ tsp sesame oil, then dredge each piece of tuna in the sesame seed mixture, until coated on all sides.

Add the remaining sesame oil to a large skillet over high heat.

Once the oil is hot, add the tuna steaks to the skillet and cook for 30-60 seconds per side.

Remove from the skillet and use a sharp knife to slice the tuna into ¼ inch slices.

Sesame Seared Tuna

Divide the sushi rice between two bowls.

Top with the sesame seared tuna, avocado, edamame, nori strips, jalapenos and green onions.

Sprinkle the togarashi over the bowl.

Top with the sweet sesame sauce or serve it on the side.

Remove tuna from the refrigerator and place on a plate. Pat dry with a paper towel and set aside.

Whisk lime juice, sesame oil, garlic, green onion, and soy sauce in a small bowl.

Place tuna in a sealable bag.

Pour marinade in bag and seal. Let marinate for 15 minutes.

Preheat air fryer at 380 degrees for 4-5 minutes.

Place tuna steaks in air fryer basket and season with ground black pepper.

Cook at 380 degrees F for 3 minutes. Check the internal temperature to get your desired doneness.

Carefully remove from the basket. Let the tuna rest for 4-5 minutes. Slice into thin strips and serve.

Cilantro Lime Rice

avocado

cucumber (diced)

red bell pepper (diced)

Prepare the Cilantro Lime Rice before making the rest of the bowl.

Rice

First place the ahi tuna steaks in a plastic bag. In a small mason jar (or mixing bowl), add in soy sauce, lime juice, and mustard. Shake/Whisk together until combined.

Pour it into the plastic bag on top of the steaks. Seal the plastic bag, place it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

After marinating, remove the ahi tuna steaks from the plastic bag and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Heat a large cast-iron skillet to medium high heat and add the oil. When the oil is fragrant, add the marinated tuna to the cast iron skillet. Sear tuna for 30 seconds to 2 minutes on each side.

Let the steaks rest for 2 minutes and then thinly slice. They should still have a reddish color in the center.

Tuna

Add everything to a small bowl and whisk together.

Sauce

Finely dice pineapple, jalapeno, and red onion. Add to a medium bowl and fold in diced cilantro, lime juice, and chile lime seasoning. Stir together. Set aside until ready to use.

Salsa

Dice all of the vegetables: red pepper, cucumbers + avocado and green onions.

Add the rice to the bottom of the bowl. Top with vegetables, pineapple salsa, ahi tuna, and sauce! ENJOY!
