Cook canned potatoes in an air fryer to make these alternative roasties. Though they're not the same as oven-cooked, they do turn golden and crisp

Air-fryer roasted canned potatoes

can peeled potatoes in water

tbsp sunflower or vegetable oil

Drain the potatoes in a colander, rinse and leave to drain again. Meanwhile, heat the air fryer for 2-3 mins at 190C. Put the potatoes in a bowl and drizzle over the oil. Season well with salt and freshly ground black pepper, plus any other seasonings you like (see tip, below).

Mix well so the potatoes are fully coated in the oil and seasoning. Transfer to the air fryer basket and cook for 20-25 mins until golden and crisp.

Use your air-fryer to make an easy toad-in-the-hole with chipolatas. This is comfort food at its best – serve with gravy and your favourite veg on the side

Pour 1 tsp each of the oil into two individual pie dishes, then put these in the air-fryer and heat to 200C. Brush the chipolatas with the remaining oil and carefully divide these between the hot tins. Season with black pepper and cook for 3 mins.

Meanwhile, beat the flour, egg, milk and a good pinch of salt together in a jug to make a smooth batter. Divide the batter between the tins and cook for a further 8-10 mins until the toad-in-the-hole has puffed up and turned dark golden. Serve with gravy and green vegetables.

Make a classic ham & cheese toastie in your air-fryer – try gruyère instead of cheddar, if you like, or sourdough in place of your usual bread

Heat the air-fryer to 190C. Butter the slices of bread on one side each, then combine the remaining butter with the mustard, cheese and chives, if using. Season with black pepper.

Spread the cheese mixture over the plain sides of the bread, then sandwich the ham between the two slices so the buttered sides are facing out. Air-fry for 10 mins, turning once until golden and crunchy on the outside, and the cheese has melted in the middle.

Make this comfort food classic with your air-fryer. Top with mozzarella, and serve warm with salad or your favourite sides

Air fryer tuna pasta bake

olive oil

½ tsp chilli flakes (optional)

pasta of your choice, cooked following pack instructions

Heat the air-fryer to 190C. Tip the oil, onion and garlic into a heatproof dish and air-fry for 3 mins. Add the tomatoes and chilli flakes, if using, along with some seasoning. Air-fry for a further 5 mins.

Reduce the temperature to 170C. Stir in the cooked pasta, tuna, most of the mozzarella and the parsley. Scatter the reserved mozzarella over the top.

Air-fry for 5 mins until golden, then cover with foil and cook for a further 5 mins until bubbling. Serve warm with salad.

Line a loaf tin with baking parchment. Tip the butter, sugar, eggs, flour, a pinch of salt and two-thirds of the lemon zest into a bowl, then beat with an electric whisk for 4-5 mins until pale and fluffy.

Heat the air-fryer to 160C. Spoon the cake mixture into the prepared tin, smoothing the surface. Cook for 1 hr-1 hr 10 mins until a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean (you can cover the surface with foil if it starts to get too dark). Leave to cool in the tin for 5 mins.

Meanwhile, combine the icing sugar, remaining lemon zest and just enough juice to make a smooth, pourable icing. Carefully lift the warm cake out onto a wire rack set over a tray and poke deep holes all over the top using a skewer. Slowly drizzle over the icing, letting it drip off the edges. Leave to set before serving.
