Apple cobbler

lbs apples (add an extra pound of apples if you want a thicker apple layer.)

lemon

Tbsp lemon juice (fresh)

brown sugar

cornstarch

cinnamon

tsp nutmeg

tsp vanilla extract

unsalted butter

all-purpose flour

sugar

baking powder

salt

half and half

Preheat oven to 350F. Peel apples and cut flesh from core. Cut into 1/4 inch slices and transfer to a large bowl.

Zest a lemon onto the apples then squeeze about 2 tablespoons of lemon juice onto them. Toss to combine.

Add the cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and corn starch to the apples. mix until well-combined then set aside.

For the Apples

Add the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar to your food processor and pulse to combine. You can also add 1/2 tsp of cinnamon if desired.

Add the COLD cubed butter to the processor and pulse a few times until the butter is in small lentil-sized pieces.

Pour the half and half into the processor while pulsing. Remove blade and use a spatula to give one final mix.  See blog post for instructions on making this by hand.

For the Topping

Layer the half the apples in the 9x13 baking dish. Add a few pats of butter throughout then top with the remaining apples.

Add a roughly 1/2 inch layer of the topping onto the apples. Sprinkle with a mixture of 2 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 cup sugar if desired.

Bake at 350F for about 45 minutes or until golden brown.

For the Assembly

Apples:

lemon juice

apple juice, apple cider or water

Batter:

self rising flour

milk

eggs

tsp pure vanilla extract

vanilla ice cream and warm caramel sauce

To make the Apples: In a heavy bottomed skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat.

Toi the skillet add apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, apple pie spice and salt. Mix well. Lower heat to medium-low. Simmer allowing to bubble gently for 15-20 minutes.

Mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch with apple juice until dissolved. Increase heat to medium-high and stir into the apples. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool. (This can be done up to 2 days in advance and placed into the refrigerator.)

To make Cobbler: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Put 1/2 cup butter in a 13 x 9 inch baking dish OR 12 inch cast iron skillet and into the oven to melt while it preheats.

Meanwhile, in a medium size bowl whisk together self rising flour, 1 cup granulated sugar, milk, eggs and vanilla extract until fully combined.

Remove dish from oven and swirl to coat all sides with butter. Pour batter evenly into the dish.

Spoon apples all over batter. Mix together reserved 2 tablespoons granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon and sprinkle on top.

Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden and puffed.

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of warm salted caramel sauce, if desired.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease or butter a baking casserole dish that’s 9x6 or something comparable. Use what you have! And then set it aside.

Prep:

In a large bowl, add the sliced honey crisp apples, gala apples, brown sugar, sugar, flour, juice from 1 lemon, vanilla and spices (cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and cloves). Toss it all together until combined. Add the filling to your prepared baking dish.

To Make the Filling:

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Add the milk, butter and vanilla; mix until combined. Pour the topping on top of the filling. It’s ok if some of the filling is peaking through or it’s not a totally perfect on top. I like it when some of the filling shows through. And then transfer to the oven to bake for about 40 to 45 minutes, until the filling is bubbling and the top is golden brown.

Remove from the oven and serve warm with cold vanilla ice cream.

To Make the Topping:

This Easy Apple Cobbler recipe is the perfect dessert for fall. Made with sweet and spiced apple filling and a fluffy crust that comes right from a box of cake mix, this dump and go dessert is deceptively delicious. Friends and family will think you spent hours on it when really all you need is about five minutes!

apple pie filling (2 cans)

salted butter

lemon juice (fresh is best)

vanilla extract

apple pie spice (or ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, ½ teaspoon nutmeg)

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly spray nonstick cooking spray into a 9 x 13 baking dish.

In a large bowl (or directly in the baking dish), combine apple pie filling, lemon juice, vanilla extract and apple spice. Stir gently to combine.

Evenly spread the apple pie mixture onto the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

Sprinkle the cake mix evenly over the top of the filling.

Use a spatula to gently press the cake mix down into the pie filling a bit, but not fully combining it. You want the cake mix to absorb a bit of the liquid from the apple pie mixture.

Slice the butter into 16 pieces and arrange evenlyl over the top of the cake mix.

Bake for approximately 35 to 45 minute, or until golden brown. After about 25 minutes check on the cobbler and if the top is looking dry, use the spatula to press the dry bits of cake mix down into the filling and continue baking until light golden brown on top.

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

This delicious southern-style apple cobbler comes together easily in about twenty minutes.  It combines fresh apples, cinnamon, and brown sugar with a six-ingredient dough that bakes up more like a cake batter than a biscuit topping.

In a large bowl, combine the apples, lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.  Toss to coat.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Add butter to a 9 x 13 pan and place in oven to melt.  It only takes a few minutes, so keep an eye on it because you don't want it to be brown or burn. Remove from oven and let cool while you do the other steps.

Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Pour in milk and vanilla and stir to combine.  Pour the batter into the pan over the butter.  Do NOT mix in.  Spoon the apple mixture on top.  Do NOT mix in.

Bake for 50-55 minutes or until golden brown and set.  Serve warm or cold.  

This is so delicious! The first time I made it exactly as is, but the second time I made some adjustments to get it exactly to my liking. I increased the amount of vanilla and spices just slightly and cooked the apple topping ingredients over the stove until the apples were half way done cooking and added a corn starch slurry to get it like apple pie filling. I then put this partially cooked and thickened filling into the baking dish on the bottom and topped it with the cake batter which included the melted butter mixed into it. It turns out so much better this way in my opinion. It’s a lot juicier and more appealing for the eye as well.

This is very good, but I would call it an apple cake. It doesn’t have any of that “apple pie filling” that you find in most cobblers. It’s bread and sliced apples. I will make it again overall.

I never leave recipe reviews, but I had to make an exception here!! Super easy, delicious. I added about a cup and a half of blueberries also and finished off with a powdered sugar/ milk glaze when it was finished… heavenly!!

It is one of our favorite apple desserts, and I like to serve it with fresh whipped with a sprinkle of cinnamon or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

This apple cobbler is pure comfort in dessert form! Juicy, cinnamon-spiced apples bubble beneath a golden, buttery topping that’s crisp on the outside and soft in the middle. It’s cozy, delicious, and so simple to make.

light brown sugar

lemon juice (freshly squeezed)

1½ tsps ground cinnamon

¼ tsp ground ginger powder

¼ tsp ground all spice

vanilla extract/essence

white granulated sugar

2¼ tsps baking powder

(omit

milk (cold)

tbsp white granulated sugar

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) conventional (see note 1 if using a convection oven with a fan). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and set aside.

Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples (about ¼-inch thick).

Transfer apples to a large pan and add in brown sugar, lemon zest, lemon juice, flour, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, salt, and vanilla. Mix well and let sit for 10 minutes until the apples release some juices.

10 minutes later, place the pan over medium heat and cook the apples for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until they just begin to soften (be careful not to overcook). Remove from heat.

Transfer the apples to the prepared baking dish and spread them out evenly. Set aside for now.

Topping: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Add in cold butter and cut it into the flour mixture (either using your hands or a pastry cutter) until it resembles a sandy texture with some larger clumps of butter throughout.

Add in the milk and vanilla and using a wooden spoon, mix gently until the flour is moistened and you have a lumpy mixture (do not overmix as we don&#39;t want it to turn into a dough).

Evenly place the topping over the apples, spreading it out by gently  pushing the topping down (see video for demonstration).

In a small bowl, mix white sugar and cinnamon until well combined, then sprinkle over the topping.

Bake for 35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling around the edges.

Allow the cobbler to cool for about 20 minutes before serving.

For this recipe, we used Granny Smith's apples and coated them with a sweet cinnamon mixture before baked in a delicious homemade dough mixture.

2 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into bits & chilled
1 egg
4 tbsp milk
