Portuguese people are known for cooking up great seafood. More specifically...Marisco! We love our squid aka calamari, aka Lulas, and guisadas is just one of many ways of doing it. This provides a one pot, hearty meal for the whole family. Great any time of year, and don&#39;t forget to bring some bread to dip in the sauce!

Lulas Guisadas

Calamari,

Potatoes

Tomatoes, chopped

tbsp Parsley, chopped

Lemon

Garlic Cloves

Vinho Verde

Bay Leaf

tbsp Olive Oil

Salt and Pepper to taste

Water, if needed

tbsp Massa Pimentao

Small Onion

Marinade Lulas with Wine, garlic, salt, pepper, lemon juice, and massa de pimentao.

In a deep pot, simmer onion and a bay leaf with olive oil. When onion becomes transparent, add Lulas. Simmer for a few minutes on medium/high heat.

Add tomatoes, parsley, and enough vinho verde to cover everything. Let simmer on medium heat for about 12-15 minutes.

Add cubed potatoes, re season, and add enough water/wine to cover everything just to the top.

Cook on medium heat for 30 minutes. Stir it every few minutes. Serve.

Crispy Calamari Recipe

Preheat the oven to 220C/440F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

Combine olive oil and lemon juice in a bowl and place the calamari in it to marinate for at least 5 minutes or up to 30 minutes.

Mix panko bread crumbs, salt, oregano, and black pepper in a bowl. Dredge the calamari in the mixture to coat it evenly.

Place the calamari on the lined tray and bake for 25 minutes until they turn golden brown.

Serve immediately.

Fill the deep fryer or a large pot with cooking oil. Once it’s heated to 350F/175C, carefully lower a small portion of the breaded calamari into the fryer and cook until crispy and golden. Drain the fried calamari on a paper-towel-lined plate, then repeat with the remaining pieces.

Looks yummy! I’ll need to nix the panko, for gluten free reasons, so will try with ground pork rinds. Hope it works as well as your original recipe.

Rinse the calamari gently under cool water and then pat dry with paper towels.

Season the calamari in a mixing bowl with sea salt and cracked black pepper.

Heat a large, heavy-bottomed skillet over high heat until hot. Add 2 tablespoons of avocado oil.

Add the calamari in a single layer; cook undisturbed for 90 seconds.

Flip the calamari carefully and cook for another 60 seconds until they’re opaque.

Lower the heat to medium and push the calamari to the edge of the skillet.

Add the unsalted butter, sliced garlic, and crushed red pepper flakes to the center.

Pour the fresh lemon juice over the calamari and toss gently to combine.

Remove from heat, stir in the chopped parsley, and serve immediately.
