Caramel Apple Dip

caramel candies, (unwrapped)

sweetened condensed milk

vanilla extract

Place the butter, caramels, and sweetened condensed milk in a saucepan over medium-low heat.

Heat and stir frequently until the caramel and butter melt. Stir continuously until the caramel dip is creamy and smooth.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

Allow the dip to cool before enjoying it with apple slices or drizzled on top of desserts!

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.

Beat the cream cheese in a stand mixer or large mixing bowl, until smooth. Add the cream and mix well until stiff peaks form, about 3 minutes. 

Mix in cinnamon, vanilla, sugar and caramel sauce until combined.

Serve with apple slices. Refrigerate leftovers.

Easy homemade caramel dip for apples uses just 4 ingredients and takes less than 15 minutes! Choose full sugar or lower sugar, stovetop or microwave, and try a family apple tasting tradition with different apple varieties.

Caramel Dip for Apples Recipe (+ Lower Sugar Option and Easy Microwave Method)

butter ((Lower sugar: 1/3 cup))

brown sugar ((Lower sugar: 1/2 cup))

honey ((Lower sugar: 1/4 cup))

sweetened condensed milk ((Lower sugar: same))

vanilla, (optional)

Melt the butter in a heavy saucepan over medium-low heat.

Add the remaining ingredients, raise heat to medium-high and bring to a boil, stirring constantly (will take 5-10 minutes, depending on your stove).

Lower heat to medium or medium-low (or what you need to keep a very low boil) and cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly (really- this is not the thing to walk away from! It will burn...I know from experience!).* Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, if using.

Stovetop Method:

Melt the butter in a large microwave safe bowl (I use an 8-cup glass measuring cup with handle) - about 30 seconds.

Add the brown sugar, honey, and condensed milk to the bowl and whisk until all is incorporated fully.

Microwave on high power for 4 minutes. It will look lumpy and ruined - it&#39;s NOT. Whisk it hard until it smooths out, about 30 seconds. Test the temperature with an instant read thermometer - it should be at 220-225 degrees Fahrenheit. Microwave again for another 30 seconds if it&#39;s not (mine is usually 221-222 at 4 minutes).

Stir in the vanilla, if you&#39;re using.

For both methods, let cool a bit and then pour into a glass serving bowl and serve warm.

Refrigerate any leftovers. Microwave a few seconds to soften before using again.

Microwave Method:

This was a hit! Used it as the Carmel apple dip for apples, refrigerated it for a bit, then dipped in white chocolate, then sprinkled with a bit brown sugar and cinnamon sugar. if anyone has had the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory "Apple pie Carmel apple", it was a bomb copycat. Love that the Carmel dip that covered the apple didn't get that break your teeth hard that you sometimes get with Carmel apples.

I had a bunch of apples around but wanted something to go with them. I just made this recipe and besides being super easy, it is amazing! I will definitely be making it again

I made the low sugar version.  I added 1 tsp of sea salt after it had cooled a bit. Very nice salted caramel sauce!

You aren't kidding about watching it...it scorched on the bottom before a bubble even came to the surface!  Thankfully, I caught it before it burned. Still delicious!
