Is there something wrong with the waffle mixture.  That comes out pretty thick and dry.  I had to add milk to loosen it up.

This is very good. The shorter marinating time makes more sense than doing it overnight.  I added onion powder to the coating on the chicken because one reviewer thought it needed it.  We do have leftover waffles and that is fine with me.

It was great!  But we found the breading to be bland.  Needs more salt, garlic, and maybe some more spices. 
Otherwise it was a hit!

After reading all the comments, I made this with a shallow 9 x 13 dish. Some alterations are always expected when I use any receipe, so I only baked the waffles for 6 min and the chicken for 15 min flipping both half way. Before putting the egg mixture over, I chunked the chicken and waffles, then drizzled some honey over the top. When finished baking, at 350 for 40 min, I let the family add their own syrup on top to taste. Everyone loved it! I will make this again.

In my oven it is done 20 - 30 min tops  At 375.
Everything is cooked but the eggs and they don’t take long at all. Decrease the milk and egg mixture if y’all don’t want it soggy

Better off just making chicken and waffles... I like the idea behind this recipe but it just wasn’t good.

I used large muffin pans so servings were individual and used the tip to add crumbled bacon on top—office staff loved it!! Great recipe!

It was alright. Quick and Easy. I read the reviews and made the decision to stir the waffle and chicken in the egg mixture after I poured it in. Then after 30 mins of baking I put foil on top of the casserole so it wouldn't dry out. My 3 year old  and picky Significant Other likes it

Biggest suggestion to people is feel free to edit the recipe a little bit. If you do everything exactly how it says it won't turn out perfect. Feel free to cook it a little longer or shorter. You should know it is done based on how it looks not by a specific time. Make sure it is golden. This is great if you are a breakfast person and editing it for how much chicken or waffles you want is my suggestion. You like chicken a little more add some extra, waffles, put some more. Don't feel that you have to copy it word for word.

I baked this dish at 375 for about 45 minutes and it turned out nice. It was a good combination of sweet and savory. The top was a bit crunchy but it balanced out with maple syrup drizzled on top. Use good quality breaded chicken.

I made this as written in the recipe and the casserole burned, the chicken was overcooked, stringy and it was inedible.  After watching the video, you say to bake the casserole for only 45 minutes.  Your recipe says 1 hour.  I'm very disappointed...there are still people out there who follow recipes, not videos.  You should make sure your recipes are written accurately...

I baked the waffles for only 6 min (3 min each side) and breaded chicken strips for 18 min (9 on each side) on 375. Then threw it all together in baking dish and baked for an additional 30 min on 375 and it was just right. Perfectly golden brown and crispy on top. I also used the Belgian style cinnamon and brown sugar waffles (Ego brand-these waffles are a little thicker) and Tyson brand breaded chicken tenders (they were breaded in waffle style breading). Drizzle the syrup on and it was very good! I also cut the recipe in half since it was just two of us eating it.

It was not very good at all. The bottom was soggy and the top hard. The whole family complained that I made it this way.

Baked completed casserole at 375 for about 43 mins. Had some crispy waffle pieces on top but syrup softened those nicely. One of our family’s favorite recipes!

No need to count calories with these Chicken and Waffles, this sweet and salty classic is worth every bite!

Chicken and Waffles Recipe

chicken wings

salt

sage

cumin

To make the chicken, add the chicken wings to a medium bowl. Toss the chicken pieces with the salt, onion powder, garlic powder, sage, black pepper, cumin, paprika, and thyme. Pour the buttermilk over the top and mix gently. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or up to overnight.

To make the honey butter, in a small bowl, beat the butter until light and fluffy. Add the honey, cinnamon, and vanilla, and beat until well combined. Cover until ready to use.

When ready to cook the chicken, preheat 1-2 inches of oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and cornstarch. Toss the chicken wings in the flour mixture, shaking off the excess flour. Fry the chicken pieces for 3 minutes, flip, then fry for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until cooked to 160 degrees. Drain on paper towels.

To make the waffles, add the butter and milk to a small bowl or measuring cup, and heat in the microwave for one minute and thirty seconds, or until the butter is melted. whisk in the vanilla and set aside. In a large bowl, beat the eggs until fluffy. Add the milk mixture and stir to combine. Add the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar, and mix until just combined (small lumps are ok). Let sit five minutes. While the batter is resting, preheat your waffle iron. Add the batter and cook according to your waffle maker's directions.

To serve the chicken and waffles, place two chicken pieces on each waffle and top with a scoop of honey butter. Serve with maple syrup, if desired.

Authentic Belgian Liège Waffles

(1 cup) whole milk

(1/2 cup) warm water

In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, add the milk, water, and yeast
*.If using Active Dry Yeast, gently mix with a spatula and set aside to bloom the yeast for ~5-10 minutes. Once bloomed, add in the granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Mix just until combined and continue to step 2.If using Instant Yeast, add the milk, water, yeast, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Mix just until combined and continue to step 2.

Stop the mixer and add in the eggs, honey, and vanilla. Mix until combined. Add in 2 cups of flour and mix until the flour is hydrated and mostly mixed in. Stop the mixer, scrape down the paddle attachment, and switch to the dough hook.

Add in the salt and 1/2 cup of flour at a time with the mixer on low until all of the flour is combined. You may not need all of the flour depending on how humid your space is. The flour dough should start to pull away slightly. Next, add in the butter one tablespoon at a time. Be patient here as the butter will take a few minutes to incorporate itself into the dough. The dough will come back together. Remove the dough ball from the bowl and transfer it to a larger clean bowl lightly greased. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit on the counter in a warm, dry place until doubled in size (1-3 hours).

When doubled, deflate the dough by punching it down in the center and bringing the edges of the dough over the top (like you’re folding it into itself). Replace the cover and put the bowl of dough in the fridge to allow it to ferment overnight.*Note you can skip the overnight fridge resting if you are short on time. Move to step 6 to continue. The cold ferment just helps develop more flavors in the waffle.

If you cold fermented the dough, the next day, remove the dough from the fridge and allow the dough to come to room temp (about 2 hours).

Remove the dough from the bowl and place it on a lightly floured board. Flatten the dough out into a rectangle and spread out 1 1/2 cups of pearl sugar. Fold the bottom third up and then the top third on top of that. Press down and add the rest of the pearl sugar. Fold the sides up to form a rectangle. Slowly cup the dough and roll it out into a log about 12-14” long Divide the dough into 12 pieces, shape into balls, flatten slightly into round discs, and place on a parchment-lined pan. Cover with lightly sprayed plastic wrap.

Heat up your Belgian waffle maker. Since all makers are different, you’ll have to fiddle around with yours. I would advise starting off on low and increase the temperature a little at a time until you find the correct setting that will caramelize your sugars and cook your waffles to the perfect golden caramel brown. Spray the iron with non-stick spray and place a round of dough in the center of your waffle maker. Close and cook until the waffle puffs up, cooked through and the sugar pearls are caramelized. Carefully remove from the maker, and serve immediately or place it on a cooling rack.

So taste of Belgium is my absolute favorite restaurant until the location in my city closed. These Belgium waffles tasted EXACTLY the same. I am so grateful there’s no words lol I was literally ecstatic. Best recipe ever. Thank u!

Great waffles! I would caution people though to thoroughly spray the waffle iron with non stick as the batter is very hard to remove. I halved the recipie as there is only 2 of us and it tasted wonderful! We loved it, very filling.

Listen, this homemade Chicken and Waffles recipe has never looked better. Super crispy and perfectly spiced buttermilk fried chicken paired with fluffy and tender golden waffles! One of the most iconic and scrumptious Southern pairings!

Chicken and Waffles Recipe (The Best!)

lb chicken tenderloins (about 6-7 pieces)

kosher salt, divided

garlic powder, divided

onion powder, divided

white pepper

smoked paprika, divided

Prepare the buttermilk waffles as directed in that recipe. Then reheat the waffles, as needed, so that they&#8217;re ready to serve once the fried chicken is done.

For the buttermilk waffles:

Pat the chicken dry with paper towels. Then place the tenders in a large resealable plastic bag or a large container that can be fitted with a lid. Cover the tenders with buttermilk, 1 teaspoon each of salt, garlic powder, onion powder, white pepper, and smoked paprika. If you&#8217;d like, add a few squirts of hot sauce in as well.

Use your hands (fitted with disposable gloves, if desired) to massage everything together, making sure all chicken is fully coated in the buttermilk brine, and then seal/cover. Transfer into the refrigerator to marinate for at least 3 hours or overnight for the best results.

In a shallow pie plate, combine flour with the remaining 1 teaspoon each salt and garlic powder, followed by 1/2 teaspoon each onion powder, white pepper, and smoked paprika. Whisk the mixture together to thoroughly combine- then set the seasoned flour aside.

In a large heavy-bottomed pot or dutch oven, heat the oil over medium-high heat. For optimal precision, use a deep fry thermometer to heat the oil up to 350°F.

Back to the chicken, set a baking sheet aside. Take a piece of chicken from the buttermilk brine, shaking off any excess, and dredge the chicken in the seasoned flour mixture. Be sure to generously coat the chicken, filling in all un-floured gaps and crevices. Shake off any excess and set the dredged chicken onto the baking sheet. Repeat this process until all chicken tenders are fully coated.

While the oil is heating, allow the chicken to rest on the baking sheet.

Once the temperature is reached, carefully place the chicken into the hot oil. Note: I like to add about 4-5 chicken tenders in at a time to avoid overcrowding. Fry the chicken until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches at least 165°F. Then place the fried chicken onto a clean baking sheet fitted with a wire rack (or lined with paper towel).

Repeat the process until all chicken tenders have been fried. Make sure the oil is back up to 350°F in between each batch of frying chicken. Allow the chicken to rest for 5 minutes.

Place the warm waffles on plates and top with the fried chicken. This recipe is best served immediately with softened butter, warm maple syrup, and fresh fruit- if desired. Enjoy!

Wonderful recipe and it turned out delicious! It added some cayenne pepper to the flour mixture along. For the waffles I added vanilla extract and some cinnamon and nutmeg.  Topped the waffle with a light spread of peanut butter then pure maple syrup.  The chicken was placed on top and drizzled with hot honey ... the whole combination was out of this world.

6-8 pieces chicken (or

oz peanut oil (or vegetable oil)

all-purpose flour (divided)

½ teaspoon paprika

red pepper

poultry seasoning (or all-purpose seasoning)

buttermilk (½ cup of buttermilk = ½ cup of milk & ½ tablespoon of apple cider vinegar)

heavy whipping cream

butter (melted)

cooking spray

sriracha

garlic (minced)

ginger (minced)

apple cider vinegar

Mix the poultry seasoning, salt, and pepper in a small bowl.

Rub the seasoning mixture all over each piece of chicken.

Pour the peanut oil (preferred) or vegetable oil into a deep fryer, 6-quart skillet, or Dutch oven until the oil is 1-inch deep.

Heat the oil over medium heat or until it reaches 350 degrees F.

While you’re waiting for the oil to heat up, Place 1 cup of the divided flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and red pepper in a medium-size mixing bowl or 1-gallon resealable food storage bag.

Shake (or mix) the sealed bag to combine the ingredients for a homemade poultry seasoning, and set the flour mixture aside.

Pour the second cup of flour into a second resealable bag (or medium-sized mixing bowl) and set it aside.

In another medium-sized bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg, and set that mixture aside too.

The chicken will go through a 3-step process from here.

First, place the chicken in the bag (or bowl) of seasoned flour and shake or toss to coat the chicken evenly.

Second, shake off the excess flour and dip the chicken into the buttermilk mixture.

Third, transfer the chicken to the last bag (or bowl) of flour and shake or toss until it’s very well coated.

Place the coated chicken into the pre-heated oil, skin-side down, and be careful not to overcrowd the chicken in the oil. You can fry a second batch, if need be, to avoid overcrowding by frying all the chicken at once. Just make sure the hot oil remains at 350 degrees F.

Cook the chicken pieces for 10 to 12 minutes, occasionally turning to prevent excessive browning.

As the chicken batter turns golden brown, remove it from the hot oil, and allow it to drain in a closed container (to keep the fried chicken warm) with a paper towel under the chicken.
