Easy homemade Greek chicken gyro recipe. Chicken tenders

virgin olive oil

Marinate chicken and prepare gyro fixings

In a larger mixing bowl, combine the marinade ingredients, mix well. Add the chicken tenders and mix to make sure chicken is well coated with the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes (or refrigerate overnight.) Meanwhile, make Tztaziki sauce according to this recipe, and prepare the pita and other gyro fixings.

Cook chicken

Heat 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high until shimmering but not smoking. Add chicken tenders to the pan (make sure to shake off any excess marinade before adding chicken to the pan.) Cook on one side undisturbed for 5 minutes until browned. Using a pair of tongs, turn chicken over and cook on other side for another 5 minutes or until chicken is done. (See notes for outdoor grilling)

Assemble the chicken gyros

Warm up some pita. Spread Tztaziki sauce on top, then add chicken (about 2 to 3 tenders) and top with tomato, cucumber, green pepper, red onion and olives as you like. Wrap the pita up and enjoy!

My husband and I spent our honey moon in Greece this past September. We loved the gyro and we have been craving them ever since. I came across this recipe and thought I would give it a try. Wow it was so delicious!! We will make this again that's for sure. We both agreed that it reminded us of the ones in Greece.

Made this with chicken breast cut into cubes and served with home made pitta, fom this site, mediterranean salad, homemade chips and tadziki. Everyone enjoyed it. Lovely flavours. Next time i will also serve home made hummus. Thankyou, great recipe.

🔹 2 tbsp Greek extra virgin olive oil
🔹 2 tbsp red wine vinegar
🔹 3 garlic cloves, minced
🔹 Kosher salt, generous pinch to taste
🔹 Black pepper, generous pinch to taste
🔹 1 tbsp oregano
🔹 1 tsp sweet paprika 
🔹 1 tsp ground cumin
🔹 1 tsp ground coriander
🔹 pinch cayenne pepper, optional

How to Make Greek Chicken Gyros | The Mediterranean Dish

This recipe for homemade Chicken Gyros boasts huge flavor with just a few simple steps. Made with a blend of spices with the perfect balance of herbs, smokiness, warmth, and aroma, gyro night can be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home! You&#039;ll be blown away with your very own creation.

Marinate chicken: Add the chicken and marinade ingredients to a large freezer bag. Squeeze to mix all the ingredients around and transfer the bag to the fridge. Marinate for 1-4 hours.

Cook chicken: Preheat the oven to 425F°. Equip a baking sheet with a roasting rack. Line the chicken on the rack and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the edges begin to crisp. You can turn on the broiler for 2-3 minutes if you&#039;d like more crispiness without drying the chicken out.

Assemble gyros: Roughly chop the chicken into bite-sized pieces. Warm the pitas for 15-20 seconds in the microwave or toast them individually in a dry skillet over medium-high heat. Spoon some of the chicken into the pita, then top with tzatziki, onion, and tomatoes.

A simple yogurt marinade makes these 5-ingredient chicken tenders a juicy, fast, and simple Greek-inspired pita sandwich thats ready in 30 minutes or less.

Easy Chicken Gyros with Tzatziki Sauce

¾ cup low-fat plain Greek yogurt

garlic (pressed

red wine vinegar

Combine the lemon juice, yogurt, and sea salt in a large bowl and add the chicken tenders, tossing to coat well. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes or overnight.

Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add half of the chicken tenders to the pan, shaking off the excess yogurt mixture before adding to the pan. Cook the chicken tenders for about 5 minutes, undisturbed, until browned, then flip and cook for another few minutes or until the chicken is cooked through. Transfer to a platter, add the additional tablespoon of olive oil and cook the remaining chicken tenders.*

Prepare the tzatziki sauce by grating the cucumber. Gather the cucumber together and place in a paper towel and press the water out of the shredded cucumber and place in a medium size bowl. Add the yogurt, garlic, red wine vinegar, fresh dill, kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper and mix well. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes or up to 3 days.

Warm the pita bread in a toaster oven or in the microwave for 30 seconds.

Spread some of the tzatzhiki sauce onto the warm pita bread with tomatoes, sliced red onion and 2 or 3 slices of chicken tenders. Fold the pitas and wrap in parchment paper or serve immediately.

Easy Chicken Gyros &amp; Tzatziki Sauce

chicken tenderloins (cut thick ones in half lengthwise)

white or whole wheat pita bread

feta cheese

5-Minute Tzatziki Sauce

green-leaf lettuce

black pepper

red pepper flakes

garlic

garlic powder

Herbs de Provence

¼ red onion (thinly sliced)

salt and pepper (to taste)

dill (optional)

Stir together all of the ingredients for the marinade.

Add chicken to the marinade, toss to coat, cover tightly, and chill for at least 30 minutes (or up to two hours for more added flavor).

While chicken is marinating, stir together all ingredients for the cucumber salad. Set aside.

Use tongs to transfer marinated chicken to a preheated cooking surface (grill or skillet) and cook for 5-6 minutes on each side over medium heat until cooked through.

Arrange the pitas on a plate or clean surface. Assemble the pitas by filling pita bread with lettuce, chicken, cucumber salad, feta cheese, and tzatziki sauce.

Fold the pita over like a sandwich or roll it up. Enjoy!

Add chicken to a large bowl or ziplock bag. Combine marinade ingredients and pour over chicken. Stir well to coat and marinate for 1-4 hours.

Meanwhile, make the tzatziki sauce by combining all ingredients. Taste it and add more seasoning (lemon juice, garlic, salt, pepper or cumin)if needed. Refrigerate.

Heat grill to medium and oil the grates (or if cooking on the stove, add a little oil). Remove chicken from marinade, letting any excess sauce drip off. 

Grill chicken for a few minutes on each side, flipping once, until cooked through. Remove to a plate to rest before chopping into bite-size pieces.

Toast or warm your pitas. Layer with chicken, lettuce, tomato, red onion, cucumber and sauce. Enjoy!

This refreshing and light, easy Greek chicken gyros is packed with tender souvlaki chicken, Greek salad, and homemade tzatziki sauce, all wrapped in a pita.

Greek Chicken Gyros with Tzatziki

cloves garlic, crushed

parsley, chopped

lbs. chicken breast (approximately 3 chicken breasts),

tablespoon olive oil

large cucumber, unpeeled

cup plain Greek yogurt

cloves garlic, pressed

tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice (juice of 1/4 lemon)

+ 1/2 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped

teaspoon salt

of ground black pepper

+ 1/2 cup romaine lettuce, chopped

cherry tomatoes, quartered

red onion, chopped (roughly 1 small red onion)

feta cheese, crumbled

salt and pepper,

pita breads

Prepare the marinade

. Add all of the ingredients for the chicken souvlaki marinade into a large ziploc bag. Press the marinade around to combine.  Add in the chopped chicken, and press the air out of the bag and seal tightly. Press the marinade around the chicken to coat. Place in the fridge to marinate at least 1 minutes or overnight.

Prepare the tzatziki sauce

.  Grate the cucumber and drain through a cheesecloth, fine mesh sieve or using your hands. Transfer drained cucumber to a medium bowl. Add the yogurt, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, dill, salt and pepper. Stir to combine. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to let the flavours infuse into the yogurt.

Prepare the toppings

. In a medium bowl, combine the toppings and toss together. 

Grill the chicken

. You can thread the chicken onto skewers to grill, or grill the individual pieces. Lightly brush olive oil over grill pan. Heat the grill over medium high heat for about 5 minutes, until sizzling hot. Cook the chicken for 7 minutes on each side, or until its internal temperature reaches 165 F (75 C).

Assemble the gyros

. Warm the pitas on the grill, about 1-2 minutes per side. Then, on the centre each pita bread, add a few spoonfuls of the salad toppings in a line down the middle. Top with grilled souvlaki chicken, and a generous scoop of tzatziki sauce. Fold the pita up and enjoy. You can also wrap it in parchment paper and twist the bottom to keep the ingredients inside.

With super juicy marinated chicken and a fresh tzatziki sauce, these Greek Chicken Gyros are the perfect light summertime meal to cool you down and fill you up!

Greek Chicken Gyros

boneless (skinless chicken breasts)

apple cider vinegar

½ cup full-fat plain Greek yogurt

paprika

pepper

seasoning salt ((I used Lawry’s))

Greek seasoning ((I used Cavender’s))

pita wraps

full fat plain Greek yogurt

cucumber,

Tablespoons fresh dill, (chopped)

Pound the chicken flat, to about ¼ inch thickness.

Place all of the marinade ingredients: garlic, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, olive oil, Greek yogurt, oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, seasoned salt and Greek seasoning into a bowl and combine.

Pour the marinade into a large ziploc bag. Place the chicken into the bag with the marinade and squish everything around to cover every bit of the chicken.  Place this into the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.

While this is marinating, make the tzatziki sauce. Grate the cucumber using the large holes of a box grater. There is no need to peel the cucumber.

Place the grated cucumber into a cheese cloth or paper towels and squeeze to thoroughly drain all of the excess water from the cucumber. (This is important because if there is too much liquid, it will water down the sauce over time.)

Add all the ingredients in a medium bowl: Greek yogurt, grated and drained cucumber, fresh dill, fresh lemon juice, olive oil, and salt.

Mix everything until combined.

Let this sit for at least 5 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.

When the chicken is finished marinating, remove it from the marinade (discard the marinade) and place it into a large skillet (or on the grill) with a tablespoon of oil. Turn the heat to medium and cook the chicken for 3-4 minutes on one side (searing the chicken as it cooks), then flip and continue cooking until fully cooked through (internal temperature should be at least 165F degrees.) 

Place the cooked chicken on a cutting board and allow it to rest for at least 5 minutes before cutting it into strips.

Prepare pita bread (or flatbread) by warming it. Then fill each pita with chicken, shredded lettuce, sliced onion, diced tomatoes and drizzle with some tzatziki sauce. Fold and serve!

These Chicken Gyros are easy to make and loaded with so much flavour. Once you start, you&#039;ll never stop making them!
