One of the greatest things about fall, in my opinion, is the abundance of crisp, delicious apples that appear in the markets. The scent of an apple pie, crisp, or crumble baking in the oven is the true aroma of the season, and I will not be convinced otherwise. ;-)&nbsp;With minimal effort and just a few hours in the crockpot, you can make your own healthy and delicious applesauce that everyone is sure to enjoy.

CINNAMON APPLE SAUCE

Peel, core, and slice about 3 pounds of apples.

Once your apples are sliced, put them into a crockpot and add the cinnamon and lemon juice. Stir several times to ensure that all the slices are evenly coated.

Turn your slow cooker on high and let it cook for 3 hours, stirring occasionally (3 or so times during cooking should suffice).

After 3 hours, you may or may not need to mash the apples up a bit, depending on what kind of apples you used.

Melt butter In large skillet over medium high heat. 

Add apples and brown sugar. Continue to cook over medium high heat for 15 minutes, or until apples are softened, stirring occasionally. 

Stir in cinnamon. 

Makes 3 cups. Serve over pancakes, cooked oatmeal, vanilla ice cream, or pudding.

Peel, core, and chop the 6 large apples into even pieces to ensure uniform cooking in the crockpot.

Add Ingredients to Crockpot

Place the chopped apples into the slow cooker. Pour in ½ cup of water, ¼ cup sugar (adjust based on sweetness preference), 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and ½ teaspoon vanilla extract.

Cook the Apples

Cover the crockpot with the lid and cook on low for approximately 8 hours until the apples are very tender and easily mashed.

Blend the Sauce (Optional)

Once cooked, use a potato masher or blender to mash or puree the apple mixture to your desired consistency for smooth or chunky apple sauce.

Cool and Store

Let the apple sauce cool before transferring it to airtight containers. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks or freeze for longer storage.
