I would recommend matching the written directions to the video directions. The written directions don't say to drain the fat from the beef searing. I didn't watch the video, so this turned out a thin, soupy disaster. Terrible.

Wonderful recipe. I changed it up by using both ground Sirloin as well as a cubed up Chuck Roast and adding the proverbial kidney and pinto beans plus added more diced tomatoes than called for - used the new product RoTel Diced Tomatoes with Serrano Pepper and it added another level of zing.

Classic Chili

red bell pepper,

onion, chopped

garlic, chopped

(45 ml) vegetable oil

lb (454 g) ground beef

(60 ml) chili powder

(10 ml) coriander

(5 ml) ground cumin

(5 ml) ground ginger

cayenne (optional)

(45 ml) molasses

(45 ml) ketchup

Dijon mustard

(30 ml) red wine vinegar

(796 ml/28 oz) crushed tomatoes

(540 ml/19 oz) red kidney beans

Salt and pepper

(15 ml) whole-grain mustard

In a Dutch oven or large pot over medium heat, soften the bell pepper, onion and garlic in the oil. Add the meat and brown. Add the spices and cook for 2 minutes. 
Add the molasses and ketchup and cook for 2 minutes. Add the Dijon mustard, vinegar, tomatoes and beans. Lower the heat and simmer for 45 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Remove from the heat and stir in the whole-grain mustard.


Wow. Simply WOW. An outstanding recipe and super easy to make. Great flavour with tons of opportunities to customize. Next time I will make with chorizo sausage. You could certainly modify this to a veggie chili. Superb!

I was looking for something a little different from the usual chili that I make, and was intrigued by some of the ingredients in this recipe, such as the molasses.  It didn't disappoint!  Sweet and smoky, it's a great chili.  I love that it's nice and thick, not at all watery.  I like it with the addition of corn.

Tasty, perhaps the coffee adds a darkness that suits us. Replaced the ketchup with the Compliments Craft Beer Chipotle sauce you can get at Sobeys. Replaced the quarter cup of water with Steamwhistle beer. Did I mention tasty?

I made this dish last night fast and easy.  As my family likes it a bit more spicy, I added chili spice to the meat as it was browning.  I served it with cheese beer biskets.  I thought adding the coffee was a nice touch. I will definitely make this recipe again.

Mix salt with ground beef. Set aside so it can get nice and salty while you prep the other ingredients. In a large Dutch oven over medium high heat, fry your bacon pieces until crispy. Drain on paper towel lined plates. Pour off most of the bacon fat, but leave 1-2 tablespoons for sautéing.

This recipe was fabulous.  I did not use the bacon or bacon fat but added extra beans and seriously everyone couldn’t stop raving about it.   I did add a pinch of red pepper flakes.   Texture was great.  I simmered first three hours and the best flavors ever.

Love this recipe!  Added about a half a beer to it.  Yum.  I eat it over buttered rice.

I grew up in Hawaii and that's the ONLY way I eat chili!!! I love it over jasmine rice. My fiance always wants me to make pasta . . . . So sometimes I make both but it's always rice for.me!!

Delicious and so refreshing not to see "Instant Pot" in the title. I realize the "Instant Pot" is convenient, but it really isn't cooking. I prefer the slow cooking method that the Instant Pot supposedly replaces (reserved for the weekend.). We all like to TALK about socializing over food and how COOKING builds our character - but the Instant Pot takes that away. The Instant Pot is also incredibly priviledged - what about those who can't afford an Insta Pot? What about those who don't have access? The Insta Pot is simply the next "hot thing" that we wont remember 5 years down the road. We've always had pressure cookers but now that we have a name brand we feel pressed to buy it. Websites make you feel as if you are a loser and an outsider if you DONT have an Insta Pot. Or you a poor. I LOVE this website so much, but I tire of the Insta Pot recipes.

I agree. I use the Instant Pot for making fast steel cut oats and very occasional time-saving recipes, but really I like to cook and I always get better flavors when I actually cook on the stove. The time and layers of additions at different points really develop flavors.

I made this last night and it was delicious! I used ground turkey instead of beef,  sweet potatoes instead of carrots and a poblano pepper instead of a jalapeño (was feeling more smoky than spicy- added some paprika too) and loved it. This really is a stand your spoon straight up chili. Also, kudos on bacon in chili!! I had never added that before, but it’s a game changer for sure.

We ALWAYS have Fritos with our chili (must be a Minnesota thing?) so we're all class over here too!  I am picky about my chili too but love so many beans, and a little of the meaty texture.  This does look lovely, and my burger loving daughter might actually enjoy it if I made it this way!  I'll give it a try.

YES YES YES. This chili is the actual perfect chili. It’s got that warm and hearty feed-your-soul goodness you need in a chili, but it’s also really well balanced, chock full of good stuff, and pleasantly light. Served it for dinner tonight with some cheddar cheese, and sour cream mixed with lime and cilantro, and I am already dreaming about eating the leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

Made this yesterday and it got rave reviews even from the 4 year old. We had smaller portions and are having leftovers later this week and I froze a few servings in ziplocks for snowstorm emergencies! Also, I made the first half of the recipe as instructed and then threw it all in the slow cooker for 3 hours while we went sledding. It was perfection.

I have been looking for a chili recipe that fulfilled all of my ideas of what chili should be and I do believe I found it!  My husband is of the opinion that chili shouldn't have beans; I think he is wrong.  But when I made this last night his words were "this is good!"  And let me tell you, this is HIGH praise coming from my reserved man.  Saving to my favorites now!

Fire roasted tomatoes are hard to come by here in Canada let alone crushed ones to I went with regular crushed tomatoes, added some chipotle &amp; red pepper flakes and it was delicious! Definitely going to be making it again :)

Add the olive oil to a large soup pot over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the onion and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add the ground beef and sausage to the pot and cook, breaking apart into small pieces with a wooden spoon, until browned. Drain any grease.

Add the vinegar and cook for 1 minute. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato juice, ketchup, beans, brown sugar, chili powder, garlic salt, pepper, paprika, cumin and cayenne.

Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring, then reduce the heat and simmer over medium-low heat for a at least one hour, or up to 3 hours, stirring occasionally.

Serve in bowls with a dollop or sour cream and a sprinkle of cheese on top.

Serve chili with: cornbread, biscuits, or a green salad.

Win or lose, it&rsquo;s always a good game when there&rsquo;s a bowl of homemade chili involved. For game day or any day, you can&rsquo;t go wrong with a hearty cup of this classic chili starring McCormick&reg; Chili Seasoning Mix, Bush&rsquo;s&reg; Mild Pinto Chili Beans, and Frank&rsquo;s&reg; RedHot Original.

Classic Chili Recipe

McCormick® Chili Seasoning Mix, Original

(16 oz) BUSH’S® Mild Pinto Chili Beans undrained

(14 1/2 oz) diced tomatoes undrained

(8 ounces) tomato sauce

Frank’s RedHot® Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce optional

step 1

 Cook ground beef and onion in large skillet on medium-high heat 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Drain fat.

step 2

Stir in Seasoning Mix and remaining ingredients, except RedHot Sauce. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Serve with shredded cheese, sour cream and chopped onion, and drizzle with RedHot Sauce, if desired.

Made with lean ground beef, beans, and a homemade chili spice blend, this recipe for Slow Cooker Chili delivers maximum flavor with minimal effort.

Crockpot Chili

(28 oz) can crushed tomatoes

(14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes

Brown Meat

In a large non-stick skillet, brown 2 pounds of ground beef with with 1 minced onion over medium-high heat, breaking the meat up into small pieces, as it browns. Once the meat is fully cooked, add in 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, just to toast the garlic.

Drain

Remove the meat and onion mixture from the heat and if needed, drain off any excess grease. Add the browned meat to the base of the slow cooker. 

Combine

Drain and rinse a can of dark kidney beans and light kidney beans and add to the meat mixture in the slow cooker. Add 28 ounces of crushed tomatoes, 14.5 ounces of diced tomatoes, and 2 tablespoons of chili seasoning. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.

Slow Cook

Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours.

Serve

Serve with cheese, sour cream, chips, cornbread, etc

I added 2 can of hot beans to this and used 1 can of dark red and 2 cans of light red beans. This is my go to chili recipe every single time I make it. I won a chili cook-off at work as well lol.
