There Is Nothing Better Than Corned Beef Hash

This corned beef hash breakfast is filled with chopped crispy potatoes and bell peppers with corned beef mixed together and a large sunny side up egg to complete the meal. Breakfast just got better with this hash!

Homemade Corned Beef Hash

Tablespoons Butter

Potatoes (Diced)

Red Bell Peppers (Chopped)

Onions (Chopped)

lb Corned Beef (Cooked and Cubed)

tbs Italian Seasoning

Eggs

Salt

Pepper

Red Pepper Flakes (optional)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  In a medium sized skillet, melt butter then add diced potatoes. Cook 5-7 minutes, until the potatoes are tender and slightly crispy. Add bell peppers and onions, and cook 4-6 minutes until tender. Add the Corned beef and cook until warmed and slightly brown.

Crack the eggs on top of the hash. Place the skillet in the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes until eggs are set.  Season with salt, pepper and pinch of red pepper flakes.

Worcestershire Sauce, (plus more to taste)

tsp White Pepper, (or to taste)

Potatoes

Place potatoes in a large pot and fill with cold water. Add 1 tsp salt then bring to a boil until knife tender. Drain (don&#039;t rinse) then leave in the colander to steam dry. Preferably until they stop steaming, but a minimum of 5mins. Shake the colander to rough the edges on the potatoes.

Heat up 1/2cup / 120ml oil in a large frying pan (or enough to comfortably fill the base of the pan). Turn onto a high heat, and when the oil is nice and hot carefully add the potatoes. Fry the potatoes, tossing occasionally until golden and crispy (this can take around 15mins, depending on the size of your spuds).

Drain

Once crispy, discard excess oil, leaving around 1 tbsp left in the pan. If you want to keep the potatoes extra crispy remove them from the pan and add back in right at the end (see notes).

Corned Beef

Add in onion and fry for 3-5mins until soft and starting to brown. Add in corned beef, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce and 1/4 tsp white pepper. Toss the pan to combine everything and heat the corned beef through. Try not to stir too much or the corned beef will go mushy.

Serve

Serve individual portions with a few more drops of Worcestershire (optional), some brown sauce (optional) and a fried egg on top. Enjoy!

Here I’ll show you how to make corned beef hash with canned corned beef. It’s crispy, flavoursome and super easy to make!

Here is the recipe for canning the Corned Beef and Potatoes with the Corned Beef Hash recipe following.

lbs Corned Beef,

pc, medium size potatoes, peeled

pc. large onion diced (optional)

water

salt and pepper

Cut the corned beef and potatoes into 1″ cubes.

Fill hot sterilized pint jars with 1/4 full of potatoes and then fill to 1 1/2″ headspace with Corned Beef. Add a pinch of salt and pepper if desired.

Add boiling water filling  to 1″ headspace. Remove air bubbles with chopstick or plastic spatula. Refill to proper headspace.

Wipe the rim of the jars with paper towel that has been dipped in vinegar.

Add hot lid/ring and pressure can for 75 minutes at 11lbs of pressure for dial gauge and and 10 lbs for weighted for pints and 90 minutes if you are making quarts.

To make the hash pour the liquid out of the jar. Empty the contents of the jar onto a cutting board and chop up the meat and potatoes into a small dice. 

Add a small amount of olive oil to a frying pan. If you have not added the onions previously add a 1/4 cup of diced onions per pint jar and saute till translucent.

Then add the   chopped meat and potatoes to the pan. Turn the heat up to medium and cook on one side for about 10 minutes. 

Using a spatula turn the now crispy hash over and cook for another 5 minutes. Serve with eggs and toast!

225 g (8 oz) tinned new potatoes, drained and halved

Heat the oil in a large non-stick frying pan and fry the onion for 2 minutes with the Italian Herb seasoning.

Stir in the potatoes and fry until lightly browned. Add the corned beef, tomato puree and fresh tomatoes. Add a splash of water if necessary and cover the pan with a lid.

Cook for 10-15 minutes. Sprinkle with parsley and season to taste.

Rinse corned beef well with cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Trim off excess fat. Place in pressure cooker insert. Pour in 1 cup (240ml) water. Pressure cook on high for 1 hour.

Remove cooked corned beef from pressure cooker insert. Shred corned beef with 2 forks. Set aside.

Heat 2 tablespoon vegetable oil in a cast iron skillet. Add potatoes and allow it to brown, turning occasionally. This should take about 8 to10 minutes. Then, add onions and continue to cook for another 3 to 5 minutes.

Add ½ teaspoon salt, ground pepper, and shredded corned beef. Stir to get everything well mixed, about 3 to 5 minutes.

Heat vegetable oil in another pan on the stove. Add mustard seeds and allow them to pop. Then add minced garlic for 20 seconds followed by cabbage wedges. Allow them to sear for 1 to 2 minutes before flipping over to sear the other side.

Add ½ cup (120ml) water and some ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste). Cover and allow cabbage to cook for 3 minutes. Turn off stove.

Transfer cabbage to skillet or a separate serving platter. Served with marbled rye bread and Irish mustard or horseradish.

Transform leftover corned beef into a hearty hash. Fry crispy potatoes, onions, and hot sauce in a skillet, then put an egg on it for an eye-opening Corned Beef Hash breakfast.

Remove pan from heat and using a spatula, mash approximately 1/8th of the potatoes.  Stir mashed potatoes into the rest of the potatoes until just combined.  Stir in corned beef and hot sauce. Spread hash into an even layer and press lightly. Return skillet to high heat and cook for 3 minutes.

Gently stir hash and continue to cook until potato edges are crispy and browned, about 3 minutes.  Transfer to a platter and serve, serving extra hot sauce separately.

Yukon potatoes, chopped fairly small

Parboil potatoes

with vinegar and salt until slightly tender, approximately 10 minutes. 

In skillet, heat corned beef until fat renders and somewhat crispy

Remove corned beef

Add 3 Tablespoons of the  bacon fat

Cook for 20 minutes

on medium high, continuing to stir occasionally, until potatoes are crispy to your taste.

Add last Tablespoon of bacon fat

Cook until onions are clear

and maybe have a tad of crispness to them

Add paprika, salt, pepper, and cayenne

Heat until everything is hot

You didn't steer me wrong with the corned beef recipe, so I thought I would give this a try. The bacon fat really adds to it and this is a wonderful recipe. A great use for corned beef leftovers.

I saved some bacon left overs just for this and it really made my corned beef hash next level. Great recipe and it tasted great.

This is a great family recipe, have been making it for my family for years and now my eldest daughter makes it for her family.

340 g corned beef

Corned beef hash it a traditional dish made with Corned Beef and Potato. This corned beef hash is perfect for making corned beef pasties, or as I have done made a Rustic Corned Beef Hash

1x 340 g Tin of Corned Beef (Salt Beef or Bully Beef)

Brown Onions

Worcestershire sauce (2 teaspoons)

Dijon mustard (1 teaspoons)

Black Pepper

Brown Sauce (Steak Sauce *USA)

Prepare the potatoes

Peel and chop the potatoes into rough pieces , then boil them in a pan of salted water for about 15 minutes or until they are just cooked.

Cook the onions

Chop and rough dice 2 brown onions. Heat 50 ml of olive oil in a cast iron cooking pot. Fry off the onions until they are just starting to go brown.

Smash the potatoes

Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them off and put them in a saucepan or mixing bowl. Smash the potatoes up with a potato masher so that they are rustic and in random small chunks.

Brown the potatoes

Add the Potatoes to the onions then continue to cook for about 20 minutes, mixing them with a wooden spoon as they cook. When you mix them up they should have started to brown and are slightly crispy.

Prepare the beef

While the potatoes and onions are cooking you should prepare the seasoning. Mix the Brown sauce, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce & Pepper into the mashed potato and mix it in with a wooden spoon. Cut up the corned beef into chunks then Mash it into the potatoes.

Mix in the beef

Then add the Corned Beef mixture to the potatoes, combining the lot together.

Cook in the oven

Cook for a further 5 minutes then transfer to an oven dish. Cook in a preheated oven at 170 - 180 c for about 20 minutes or until the top has started to go brown and crispy.
