Cream Cheese Wontons are a classic marriage of Chinese and American cuisines into one addictive appetizer, and they're dead simple to make at home.

Cream Cheese Wontons

cream cheese ((225 grams))

sugar

salt

scallions ((finely chopped))

pack wonton wrappers

Vegetable oil ((for frying))

soy sauce

water

honey

sesame oil

Sriracha ((optional))

Make the wonton filling by combining the cream cheese, sugar, salt, and scallions.

Assemble the wontons. Take each wrapper, and dampen the outer edges with a thin layer of water. Place a teaspoon of the cream cheese filling in the middle, and fold in half into a triangle. Bring the two corners on the long side of the triangle together, and seal with another dab of water. Continue until all the wontons are assembled.

Heat a couple inches of vegetable oil in a small pot until it reaches 375 degrees F. Fry the wontons in batches––about 2 minutes per batch––until golden brown. Definitely use a small pot for this and fry in multiple batches; you’ll use much less oil!

Make the dipping sauce by combining all the sauce ingredients, and serve with the wontons.

My ultra crispy cream cheese wontons are stuffed with the most delicious filling and are so easy to make. These cream cheese rangoons taste like they came from a restaurant!

Combine the cream cheese, sugar and onion powder.&nbsp; Stir until well mixed.

Place a wonton wrapper on a flat surface and drop a teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture into the center. Brush the edges of the wonton with the egg.

Bring 2 opposite corners together in the middle of the wonton and pinch. Repeat with the other 2 corners and pinch to form a package shape.

Repeat with the remaining wontons and cream cheese until all are filled.

Heat 4 inches of oil in a deep pan to 350 degrees F.

Fry 5-6 wontons at a time, turning them as needed to make sure they brown evenly. This process should take about 3-5 minutes.&nbsp;

Drain the cooked wontons on paper towels and repeat the frying process with remaining wontons.

Sprinkle with chives and serve immediately with dipping sauce of choice.

These cream cheese wontons can be filled with a sweet or savory filling and baked in the oven or fried! Filling ideas include cream cheese and cherry pie filling, nutella, and more!

Nonstick Cooking Spray

Mix the powdered sugar and cream cheese together until well combined. (You can use a hand mixer or a silicone spatula for this.)

Lay out about 4 wontons at a time and cover the remaining with a dish towel (they dry out quickly).

Fill a small bowl with water and set near the wontons.

Place about a ½ teaspoon of cream cheese mixture in the middle of each wonton.

Dip your fingers into the whisked egg/water mixture (i.e. egg wash), and fold the wontons diagonally to form a triangle. Seal and ensure that there are no air bubbles.

Dip your fingers back into the water. With the longest side of the triangle facing you, fold the left side to the right, and then fold the left side over it, to the right.

Repeat until all wontons are filled and wrapped!

Deep fryers work great with these, however if you don't have one, heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a dutch oven until it is just under 350 degrees. (I put my electric stove to just under the medium-high mark).

You can use an extra wonton wrapper to test the temperature. Place it in the oil and ensure that it doesn’t cook too quickly or burn. Adjust the heat accordingly if needed.

Fry 4-5 wontons at a time, each for about 45 seconds to a minute, (or until golden brown).

Place them on a plate lined with paper towels to cool.

To Fry:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray and place the sheet in the oven for about 5 minutes. Heating the sheet will ensure that the wontons are nice and crisp on the bottom when they bake.

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and place the wontons on top. Coat the wontons with a light layer of nonstick cooking spray.

The wontons will need to bake for about 10-12 minutes, however it’s best to start checking on them after 5 minutes. Remove them from the oven when they are crisp and golden brown.

To Bake:

Brush each wonton lightly with vegetable or canola oil. Air Fry at 370 degrees for 7-8 minutes, until slightly browned and crispy. Serve!

Place 1 Tablespoon in the center of the wonton. Then brush the eggs around the sides.

Bring two corners into the center and pinch together. Then pinch in the other two sides and sides together. Repeat with all wontons.

Place the wontons you made first (they&#39;ll be a little dryer) into the oil. Cook until golden brown. Turn down the heat if browning too fast. Then remove from oil.

Place the wontons on a plate lined with paper towel and allow to cool slightly.

Crispy Cream Cheese Wontons

(8-ounce) block softened cream cheese

In a small bowl, add 1 (8-ounce) block softened cream cheese, 2 tablespoons diced green onion, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, and ¼ teaspoon salt. Using an electric hand mixer, beat the ingredients until creamy.

Lay the 12-14 wonton wrappers on a non-stick surface. Dip your finger in a bowl of water and wet the edges of the wonton wrapper.

Add the wontons to the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and set on a paper towel-lined plate.  Serve with sweet and sour sauce if desired.

Wonton wrappers

Sweet chili sauce (optional)

Fill the wontons

Place about a teaspoon of cream cheese in the center of each wonton wrapper. I simply snip the corner off the cream cheese package and squeeze a small dollop of cream cheese directly onto the wonton wrapper.

Fold the wontons

Brush the edges of the wonton with water using your finger or pastry brush. Bring in the opposite corners together. Pinch to seal. Repeat with the other pair of corners. Pinch all the seams together to seal.

Deep fry the wontons

In a deep pan or fryer, heat oil to 350°F. Make sure the oil is deep enough to fully submerge the wontons. Add a few wontons at a time to the hot oil. Fry for one and a half minutes, or until they’re golden and crispy, turning occasionally for even cooking. The wontons tend to float so push down with a large utensil. Remove and drain on paper towels or wire rack. Repeat until all wontons are fried.

Serve

immediately for best results, either as is or with a side of chili sauce for dipping.

Baked Cream Cheese Wontons

oz cream cheese (softened)

green onions

onions

tsp sugar

tsp salt

vegetable oil

tbsp Thai sweet chili sauce

In a large bowl, combine and mix well softened cream cheese with chopped green onions, minced sweet onions, sugar and salt.

Crack an egg into a small bowl and whisk it. Set aside.

To wrap the wonton, spoon  ~ 1 tablespoon of cream cheese mixture onto the middle of a wonton wrapper. Do not overfill.

Using a brush or finger, brush all four sides of the wonton wrapper with egg mixture.&nbsp;

Pick up two opposite corners and press them to each other, then pick up the other two opposite corners to the middle and press the sides together to seal and close the seams.&nbsp;

Repeat Step 3-5 until all the cream cheese mixture are gone. This recipe should yield 15-18 wontons.

When all the wontons are wrapped, pre-heat oven to 400°F. Brush or spray vegetable oil all over wontons, then line them up onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil.

Bring wontons into oven and bake for 7-8 minutes. Remove from oven and let them cool for 10 minutes.

Serve with Thai sweet chili sauce and enjoy!

Made these today for Chinese Lunar New Year party. They were a HIT!

These were very good.  I had to increase the cook time because I wanted them to be crispy and found at the 8 minute mark they were not.  I did them in my oven so perhaps making them in an air fryer would make them crispy.  Not hard to put together and they would be great with Crab in them as well.

Ha!  I felt the same way - seemed to take a long time to wrap them!  But I did get into a rhythm preparing them - I found it faster to do as many at once as possible and then do each action all at once, meaning first I brushed the egg on all the wonton wrappers laid out, then I put the cream cheese on all of them, then I folded them all, and lastly I sprayed them all with oil.  That seemed to speed it up a little.

That said, there were delicious!  I brought them to an event and there wasn't a single one left!

these were delicious and I love that they're baked. I used spray olive oil instead of egg wash I also added garlic powder and only use the sweet onions as that is all I had available at the time I cook them.

First off, super yummy! It took a small lifetime to assemble the wontons. I thought it was at least an hour, I looked at the clock and it was only 15 minutes later. Lol

I added some diced cilantro and Tony’s Chachere’s Original Creole Seasoning for extra flavor. 😁

Made them tonight to go with homemade soup for dinner. They were delicious.
only had 4oz.of cream cheese, so only made 8,but that was fine for just us.

Crab Rangoon (Crispy Recipe)

Tbsp cream cheese (room temperature)

imitation crab meat

Tbsp chopped green onion

lemon juice

½ tsp dehydrated onion flakes

black pepper

wonton wrappers (square)

Gather all the filling ingredients and combine in a bowl. Fold the cream cheese mixture until smooth. Make sure the cream cheese is soft enough to mix.

Have a small bowl of water, wonton wrappers and cream cheese mixture. Arrange them on a flat surface. To prevent wonton wrappers from drying out, you can use damp paper towel or plastic wrap to cover. I like to use either the wooden cutting board or a plastic tray as my work surface. If you want an easy clean up, cover the tray with parchment paper.

Wet all the wrapper edges with water using your index finger. Grab a spoonful of filling and place in the middle of a wonton wrapper.

Bring 4 opposite corners towards the center of the wrapper. Then pinch with your fingers creating like a cross design on top. Make sure all the edges are tightly sealed to prevent leakage when deep frying. If the wontons are stubborn and not sticking well together, use egg wash instead of water.

Heat oil in a pot. While the oil is heating up, either have a baking sheet with layers of paper towel or metal cooling rack ready. To check to see if oil is hot, insert a chopstick vertically in the middle of the pot. If there are many bubbles rising up, the oil is ready. Another method is to wait until the oil reaches a temperature between 350-375 degrees F. Carefully drop one rangoon at a time, without over crowding the pot. Deep fry for about 2mins or until golden brown on all sides. Scoop and place hot wontons on the tray with paper towel or cooling rack.

Can serve hot or room temperature with dipping sauce of choice.

I did not think crab rangoon could be so crispy and flavorful. This is better than takeout!
