400 g white cabbage

Chop

Add to saucepan

Add the cabbage, bread, stock, salt and garlic to a saucepan

Simmer

Bring to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes

Add cream

Add the cream when the soup has come off the boil

Add pepper

Creamy Cabbage Soup

350 g white onion (diced)

garlic

pimento paste

bay leaves

cloves

45 mL oil (of choice)

tsp chili powder

tsp smoked paprika

oregano

cayenne

soy sauce

white kidney beans

water (using the bean can)

tbsp bouillon paste

salt & pepper (to taste)

mL liquid smoke

To a stock pot on medium heat add oil and allow to heat for a minute.

To the pot add diced onion and stir. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until the onions are translucent. Add minced garlic and hot pimento paste and stir, followed by bay leaves, cloves, hot chili powder, smoked paprika, dried oregano, cayenne and soy sauce. Stir to combine and cook for 1-2 minutes.

Stir in the white kidney beans until everything is evenly coated, then add water, bouillon paste, salt, pepper and green cabbage. Stir and place the lid on your pot and allow to cook for 20-30 minutes.

Once the cabbage is tender, stir in liquid smoke.

Using a slotted spoon carefully remove the bay leaves and whole cloves.

Using the immersion blender, blend until smooth. If you want it super smooth, you can strain it with a sieve but Kat typically doesn't do this.

Serve with crunchy croutons and a sprinkle of black pepper.

tbsp all-purpose flour

half and half cream

milk

½ tsp dried thyme

parsley (for garnish, if desired)

Add chicken broth, celery, cabbage, onions and carrot to a large pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes or until vegetables are tender.

Stir together cream and milk in a bowl.

In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour, salt and pepper. Stir to form a smooth paste. Gradually add cream and milk mixture, stirring constantly. Continue to cook and stir until it reaches desired thickness.

Gradually add cream mixture to vegetable mixture, stirring to combine. Add in ham and thyme. Heat through.

Garnish with parsley if desired. Serve hot.
