Instead, it is packed with fresh, lively flavors that wake up anything you serve with it. Unlike some of the more traditional or popular recipes for coleslaw, we skip the addition of sugar to our coleslaw dressing. For our tastes, the cabbage and carrots are sweet enough. If you disagree, add a teaspoon or two of sugar to the dressing before mixing with the cabbage and carrot. Try this as a topping to sandwiches, served next to ultra-savory meats, like braised beef or pork. Or, mound some on top of your next hot dog or hamburger.

Hey guys! First and foremost, I would love to congratulate for your lovely website and the amazing recipes you share with us. The hummus and falafel recipes are our favorite. On following the recipe to the T, it really turns out very well. My whole family has become a fan of my Mediterranean cooking. Thank you very much. I had a question for this coleslaw recipe. I want to make this slaw tonight as a spread for sandwich, and I don’t have celery seeds. Any recommendations for substitution! Keep posting these great recipes. We love them❤️

Was not a hit.  Took to a family gathering and many left it on their plate :(  The vinegar flavor was overpowering.

This was a nice recipe for Lockdown-20, and fortunately we had all the ingredients at hand. My immediate supervisor (you know) found the dressing a bit flat and the salad’s texture a bit monotonous. So we added 1/4 c wildflower honey for  flavor contrast  and a 1/2 c California raisins for textural interest.   Those minor modifications  resulted in a true winning recipe which we’ll make again with certainty. Served to accompany a grilled Alaskan Salmon sandwich on toasted focaccia roll. Come to think of it, the slaw would be good as a sandwich topping, too. Great with Prosecco.

Wow! I also made this recipe with vegannaise and just a bag of prechopped coleslaw mix and it was absolutely delicious.

This coleslaw recipe is amazingly delicious.  I made it today and I couldn’t stop eating it.  I used Hellman’s mayonnaise, but would like to try the homemade mayonnaise recipe another time.  The only thing I added that was not in the recipe was a little shredded onion, maybe 1 tablespoon.  After making this recipe, I’ll have no reason to buy store bought coleslaw or get take-out coleslaw. The other thing I like is that you know what’s in the coleslaw without any  Thank You Inspired Taste for posting this recipe.

Delicious and easy recipe ,  tasty as it is , even without the salt and pepper!  Healthier that there’s no sugar added.

Love this recipe! Didn't have dijon so i subbed honey mustard and used red wine vinegar instead and also added a little sour cream.

Wow.  So delicious!  I love the addition of celery seed.  I cannot believe you don't need sugar to make coleslaw taste good.  I used Best Foods (Hellman's) but definitely want to try your homemade mayo next time.  Finally, a reason to use my food processor!  Haha!  Thank you.

Great recipe! Didn't have celery seeds, but added some Jane's Krazy Mixed Up Salt and it was delicious. Also threw in a few slices of red onion.

This easy vinegar coleslaw recipe is a refreshing summer side dish that pairs well with veggie burgers, sloppy joes, skewers, and more!

Easy Vinegar Coleslaw Recipe

celery

red onion

rice vinegar

cider vinegar

dill

chili powder

olive oil

Thinly slice the cabbage and measure out 8 cups. Thinly slice the onion and the celery.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the rice vinegar, cider vinegar, dill, chili powder, and kosher salt. Whisk in the olive oil tablespoon by tablespoon until a creamy emulsion forms. 

In a large bowl, toss the cabbage, red onion, and celery with the dressing. Add ground black pepper to taste, and additional salt as necessary. Serve immediately. (Note: The slaw is best served the day that it is made; leftovers do not save well. One idea is to only add dressing to the vegetables that you plan to eat.)

STEP BY STEP:
Remove any outer layers of the cabbage that seem tough or are not fresh, and discard them.
With a large chef's knife, slice off the root of the cabbage.
Cut the cabbage in half through the stem.
Cut the cabbage into quarters.
Remove the root of the cabbage by cutting it out diagonally.
Thinly slice the cabbage in the short direction, using a circular motion with the knife. (Since typically shredded cabbage for coleslaw doesn't need to be in long pieces, slicing it in the short direction makes it easier to eat!)

Whisk Miracle Whip, milk and sugar until smooth.

Pour over bagged coleslaw mix until evenly coated.

Add salt and pepper to taste.

This easy coleslaw recipe really is the best! The creamy, savory dressing and crunchy veggies make it totally irresistible.

red cabbage, enough

carrot, enough for 1 cup shredded

mayonnaise (or vegan mayo)

maple syrup

Shred the carrot, using a grater or a handheld julienne shredder.

Make the coleslaw dressing: In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, dill, chili powder, and salt. Keep whisking after the mayo gets lumpy, until the mixture comes to a creamy consistency.

Mix the cabbage, carrots and coleslaw dressing together and serve immediately, or refrigerate until serving. (The coleslaw is best fresh, but can be stored refrigerated for up to 1 day.)

Awesome with some changes, honey instead of maple syrup, and did not have apple cider vinegar so used balsamic instead. Great taste, will be adding peanuts for added protein and crunch!!! Thank you

Add cabbage to an extra-large mixing bowl. Use paper towels to squeeze out any excess moisture form shredded carrot, then add to the bowl along with green onion and toss to combine.

Dressing: whisk ingredients together in a medium bowl. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Pour dressing over veggies and toss well to coat evenly.

Refrigerate for several hours or overnight before serving, for best results.

In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, honey, lemon juice, vinegar, salt pepper until the mixture is combined and there are no lumps.

Add celery seeds and whisk to combine.

Place half of the coleslaw mixture in a large mixing bowl.

Pour half of the dressing over the coleslaw in the bowl.

Add the rest of the coleslaw mixture and pour the rest of the dressing over it.

Stir until combined.

Transfer to a serving dish, cover with a lid or plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.

Stir, then garnish with salt, pepper, extra celery seeds, chopped onion, etc.

Serve.

For me coleslaw is 'just OK'.  Standard side dish at a BBQ like potato salad.  Until now that is!  This was amazing and is one more 'go to' recipe I've acquired from the JoyFoodSunshine website.  Thank you Laura.

I have bee looking for a coleslaw recipe  with the right balance Abe I think I found it   Thank you very much.

I am a cole slaw snob, self-professed, and have quite a few recipes gathered and created.  I have to ketofy mine, but that takes nothing away from this gorgeous recipe.

What a beautifully balanced recipe this is!  Just tasting the sauce, I could tell that it was an absolute winner.  

If you don't know how to make cole slaw, and you want to start with a top-notch basic, you can't go wrong with this recipe! 

I did not use the celery seeds because I did not have them on hand, instead, I replaced the salt with celery salt and that worked out beautifully.  (Or people who have Beau Monde from Spice Island could also use that, as it's main ingredient is celery salt.)   

For my first go, I used 4 cups of red cabbage and a bit of green pepper that needed to be used up.  Honestly folks, you can use this sauce for any cabbage slaw variation.  My sauce went over the top to WOW when I added in 1/2 t of Door Country Cherry Balsamic vinegar, but it was just a spontaneous add in, because I received that as a gift.  Not needed at all and I would not ever use that for a green cabbage slaw. 

Thank you so much!  I can't wait for my daughter to come home so that I can make this for her.  (She gave me the Cherry Balsamic.)  

PS. My keto version used a faux honey substitute (Nature's Hollow...NOT affiliated!)  that has xylitol in it.  I was shocked at how well that worked.   I just share this in case there are other keto people looking for adjustment ideas.)

I love this recipe on it's own.  For a change - tonight I added Sriracha - since the kids aren't joining us for dinner.  It adds perfectly.
