Mm mm, nothing is better than homemade ketchup; making your own ketchup is so EASY to make at home and making it yourself allows you to control what goes in it.

Homemade Ketchup

tomato paste

honey (or agave)

white vinegar

water

tsp sugar

salt

onion powder

garlic powder

Combine all the ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium heat; whisk until smooth.

When it comes to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring often.

Remove from heat and cover until cool.

Chill and store refrigerated in a covered container.

Easy Homemade Ketchup (10 Minutes)

(20 grams) pure maple syrup

allspice

To a medium bowl, add all of the ingredients and whisk very well for 1-2 minutes. You want to make sure everything is mixed thoroughly and is smooth.

Pour the sauce into a small pot over medium heat. As soon as it starts to simmer/bubble around the edges well, set your timer for exactly 4 minutes and whisk or stir with a rubber spatula constantly. Do not walk away from it or it'll stick to the bottom and pop all over the place. We are cooking it to cook out the raw spices flavor and develop the classic ketchup flavor. 4 minutes is just enough to do this. The color will slightly darken.

Pour the ketchup into a glass container and chill a few hours or overnight to let the flavors develop fully and get nice and cold to dip potato wedges in. Use in my homemade Thousand Island Dressing! Or, use on burgers, vegan hot dogs or whatever you like!

If you would like to make the potato wedges I have pictured, it is very easy. These are nothing fancy or crispy like fries, but are delicious and simple, healthy potato wedges that taste great with the ketchup! Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a sheet pan with parchment paper. Peel and slice 3 large russet potatoes into 1/2 inch thick fry shapes. Spread out evenly on the pan. Salt and pepper well and bake for 25-30 minutes until they are getting very golden brown. Serve immediately with the ketchup.

This ketchup is delicious. There are no preservatives, less sodium and refined sugar free. I took the homemade ketchup and poured into ice cube trays. After they are frozen I pop them out and place them in a freezer bag. When I need ketchup I take out a cube or two, depending on how much I need. Thank you Brandi for another perfect healthy recipe.

This is the best homemade ketchup ever.  I did sub the vinegar with lemon because vinegar is very acidic for the body and I avoid it whenever possible.  One additional change that I made is that I subbed the tomato paste/water with one bottle of strained tomatoes.  To me, they have a similar consistency.  I doubled the recipe, using the entire bottle of strained tomatoes so that I could reuse the glass bottle as my homemade ketchup bottle.  Brilliant!

I substituted lemon juice for the vinegar and it is still the best homemade katchup I have ever tasted.  I tried making it in the past but gave up because the results were so disappointing.  Thank you!  This recipe is a keeper.

I came across your recipe for this ketchup online. I was dubious that it would taste like “real” ketchup, but I gave it a try, thinking I would get a healthy approximation of ketchup. Your daughter is right! This tastes just like store bought ketchup ...actually it’s even better. We didn’t even wait for the flavors to meld and it tasted perfect! This easy Homemade Ketchup recipe uses pantry ingredients and is better than anything you can buy at the store! It is healthier and more delicious too!

Tablespoons granulated sugar*

apple cider vinegar

salt (,

black pepper (,

cinnamon (, dash)

red pepper

Combine all the ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring well.

Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring often. Remove from heat.

Store in a glass pint jar or other glass container with a lid, in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Sweeteners and spices can be adjusted, to taste.

This is great!! I'll never buy ketchup again, only difference though is i will try the 2-3 T of ACV. Just a little to much for my taste. So I did add a little more tomato paste and couple of squirts of porch sauce

I just made this today. I would say almost perfect replacement for store-bought ketchup except a little too much vinegar. Next time I will try 3-4 tablespoons of vinegar instead of a third of a cup

I made this last night and it turned out great! My husband loves it. I just steadily added the sugars &amp; AC vinegar to avoid overdoing them. I had a little of each left at the end. Next time I'll be doubling the recipe so I can freeze it. Thanks!

We will never purchase ketchup again. With a few pantry staples you can make the most fabulous ketchup. I took some of the comments into consideration when adding sugar. I personally used 2 tbsp of brown sugar and 1½ tbsp white sugar and a ½ tsp of salt. It was absolutely perfect. Thank you!!!

As written, this is VERY sweet, like way sweeter than store bought Heinz sweet. I doubled the recipe to keep some plain (for onion rings) and to make a batch of cocktail sauce and I found myself doctoring the hell out of both just to tamp down the sugar. My bad for following the recipe. Clearly you can adjust for taste. I would recommend starting with half the sugar called for and then adding more if you like it that way. It’s just really hard to take the sweetness away once you have added it.

This homemade catsup is phenomenal on grilled hotdogs &amp; buns w creamy pnut butter on half of toasted bun w homemade catsup on other half. I hadn't had dogs like this in quite a few years and the flavors go well together! Don't knock it till you try it!
