Turmeric Milk is a traditional, age old healthy Indian drink made with milk, turmeric powder and a bit of black pepper. It is also referred to as ‘Golden Milk,’ because of its sparkling medicinal properties, especially as an immunity boosting drink.

Turmeric Milk | Golden Milk (Haldi Doodh)

milk (- whole milk)

turmeric powder ((ground turmeric))

black pepper powder (or crushed black pepper)

Heat milk in a saucepan on a low to medium flame.

Simmer the milk for 2 to 3 minutes or until it boils. Once the milk starts boiling, turn off the heat.

Pour the hot milk in a glass or mug.

Add turmeric powder and black pepper powder.

Stir and mix very well.

Serve Turmeric Milk hot or warm.

This is a healthy, vividly flavorful, vibrant and dramatically yellow Indian drink made from milk, plenty of turmeric and other inviting spices. It can be served warm and soothing or cold and refreshing.

Golden Milk

unsweetened almond milk, (rice milk, coconut milk beverage,

Tbsp virgin coconut oil

tsp turmeric

cinnamon

tsp ground ginger

cardamom

nutmeg

cloves

tsp black pepper

tsp vanilla extract

In a large saucepan or medium pot whisk together milk, honey, coconut oil, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, and black pepper.

Heat over medium heat just until simmering. Reduce heat to low (should just be a light simmer), cover and let simmer 5 minutes.

Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and let steep off heat for 5 minutes. Then serve once cool enough to your liking.

If you would like to serve the drink iced rather than warm, chill in the fridge overnight then serve over ice in glasses.

Absolutely delicious! I didn't have cardamom but followed everything else exactly and drank it warm. I was looking for recipes to get more turmeric in my diet and this was a treat! Thank you.

Turmeric Milk Recipe (Haldi Doodh)

whole milk ((full fat milk from cow))

ground black pepper

organic sugar ((jaggery

⅛ teaspoon ground green cardamom ((or 1 crushed green cardamom))

⅛ teaspoon ground cinnammon ((or ¼ inch Ceylon cinnamon))

ginger ((sonth/sonti))

((crushed))

Traditional turmeric milk is made by bringing Cow&#39;s milk to a boil first. Pour milk to a pot and bring it to a gentle boil. If you want to use all the other optional spices, add them and boil for 2 mins. (read my notes below)

Turn off and cool down the milk to a slightly hot temperature. Add ground black pepper (powder) and turmeric. Mix well.

Transfer turmeric milk to a cup and consume while still warm. You may filter/strain the milk if you use other whole spices. Add sweetener if required. If using honey add it only when the milk comes down to warm temperature.

How to Make Turmeric Milk

Turmeric chelates iron and dairy blocks absorption. Not good if you have anaemia

I have several recipes and yes, they do add ginger, ashwaghanda, cinnamon and cardamom...

I was in a Ayurveda retreat in Kerala many years ago. Got a recipe to make turmeric milk from them and have been enjoying it for long. A friend sent me this recipe and I'm surprised to see so many other spices. Gave a try and wow! just amazing flavors!

Can I make a big batch of turmeric milk and just reheat it? How many days can you store it in the fridge? Thanks!!
