onion, chopped

red bell pepper, diced

(145 g) carrots, peeled and diced

(70 g) diced celery

red chili pepper, seeded and finely chopped (optional)

28 oz (796 ml) diced tomatoes

(125 ml) vegetable broth

In a food processor, roughly crush half of the beans. Set aside.

In a saucepan, brown the onion in the oil. Add the garlic, bell pepper, carrots, celery and chili pepper. Sauté for about 3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

Add the crushed and whole beans, corn, tomatoes, broth, spices and oregano. Season with salt and pepper.

Bring to a boil and simmer for about 40 minutes or until the vegetables are tender and it has the consistency of a thick chili. Stir occasionally.

Meanwhile, cut the top of each loaf and remove the inside crumb. Set the crumb aside for another use. Place each hollowed out loaf on a plate.

Remove the saucepan from the heat. Adjust the seasoning. Spoon the chili into the bread bowls. Sprinkle with grated cheese and cilantro. Serve with sour cream and lime wedges.

Mes fils et moi, on fait toujours la même recette de chili (d’une autre personne) depuis des années. 
Sauf que: ayant eu envie de vider mon frigo et une partie de mon garde-manger, les ingrédients que j’avais sous la main m’ont amenée à choisir cette recette.

L’autre recette est malheureusement tombée aux oubliettes, et c’est avec gourmandise qu’on a dévoré la totalité du chaudron de chili de Ricardo. Goûteux, onctueux, savoureux, je vous la recommande fortement.

Vraiment wow ce chili! Les saveurs sont au rendez-vous. Miam :)

Délicieux chili, même lorsqu'on le congèle.

Ajouter 1 à 2 c. à soupe de cacao non-sucré dans le chili est vraiment le meilleur truc secret qu’on peut donner : cet aliment ajoute une merveilleuse complexité dans les saveurs et une certaine onctuosité très agréable.

Pourquoi ajouter du cacao à la recette de chili?

Très bon!  Nous avons ajouté une cuillère de cacao comme recommandé par plusieurs et avons mangé  avec tortillas au four. Mon mari qui n’aime pas trop les mets mexicains a tout de même apprécié .
