What would I substitute for Strawberries? I'm allergic to them.

Cant wait to try this. I find AMLA quite lemony rather than bitter and it is a staple in my greens porgies and complements kale quite well also. Kale is a strong green which for my taste requires 🍋 lemon, cinnamon or pineapple to override its strong flavor.

Hi Nisha, these are all things I add to my oatmeal, except the cocoa. I never thought to make up a larger batch of them all blended together.  Would there be any downside to grinding the barberries into a rough sort of powder?  Usually I cook them with the oatmeal to soften / hydrate them a bit, so I could always keep those separate.

I am surprisingly ok with the AMLA power, thought it would be really bitter but was fine with the strawberry powder and barberries (I did not add neither the protein nor the cocoa powder though). 

I have a question that I was hoping you can help with: you mentioned waiting for the oatmeal or chia pudding to come to room temp before adding the powder for max benefits. I like taking mine cold from the fridge so wondering if that is because heat damages the structures (in which case I am fine) or if the cold reduces absorption.

 Would you mind letting me know?

Homemade Protein Powder

hemp hearts

raw pumpkin seeds

unsalted peanuts

wheat germ (or quinoa flakes)

raw sunflower seeds

Grind: Add each ingredient to a grinder and pulse briefly until a powder forms. Do not overpack the grinder bowl for even grinding. Fill it about halfway each time. Stop and stir after a few pulses. 

Storage: Transfer to a dark airtight container.

I love this protein powder. The flavor is great. I am getting the ingredients for your longevity powder . I think they are both a wonderful addition to my meals, for my health.
It is a large batch and I am wondering if it can be frozen.  I have it in the refrigerator but I was wonder for longer storage.

All of your recipes are so useful. reg the protein powder, can you please suggest the brand names for quinoa flakes and wheat germ. also can i use toasted quinoa grain( which is rinsed, cooked and toasted)instead of quinoa flakes?

This savory high-protein Miso Vegetable Oats recipe is a nutrient-dense powerhouse, perfect for a hearty breakfast.

Miso Vegetable Oats Recipe

steel-cut oatmeal (rinsed)

lentils

water (or low-sodium vegetable broth)

nondairy milk (or to taste)

walnuts

kale leaves

basil leaves

mellow miso (or white miso)

garlic

mustard powder

lemons

water

Medjool date (or to taste)

Cook the oats and lentils: Bring the water to a simmer in a medium saucepan. Add the oats and lentils. Simmer over low heat for about 20 minutes or until the desired creaminess, stirring occasionally and scraping along the bottom to prevent sticking.

Add the nondairy milk if using. Stir to combine.

Make the green miso sauce: Transfer the walnuts, kale, basil, miso, garlic, lemon juice, water, and dates to a blender. Blend on high until mostly smooth.

For serving, heat the lentil oats until warmed through. Remove from the heat. Mix in the desired amount of green sauce. Top with longevity foods.

This is the first recipe I've used from this site. I used veggie broth with mine and it tastes so good! I topped mine with chili crisp because I like it spicey.

Oh wow, this is delicious!  It is our first savory oats dish and my husband and I love it.  I subbed cilantro for basil and lime juice for lemon, which is what we had on hand, and added crushed red pepper for some kick (we like spicy).   We are addicted.  This is now a permanent addition to our breakfast menu.  Do you think the porridge (just the cooked oats and red lentils) would freeze ok?  I would like to batch cook it. I  saw this recipe on one of your shorts and had to make it ASAP.  I subbed half the walnuts for soaked cashews, and loved the savory blend.  Delicious!  Thank you so much.  This is the first recipe of your I’ve tried.   I just halved the recipe for the sauce and it made plenty!  Goji berries are also delicious on top as I didn’t have the barberries.

I've been vegan for 7 ½ years and my only regret is not having made the change sooner.  I turned 60 last Christmas and have decided that I want to become a healthier vegan. Even though I've always stayed away from refined sugars and fried foods, I feel that I could do better by making each meal nutritionally meaningful.
