Microwave on high. The time depends on the number of potatoes and the size of your potatoes. For 1 medium-sized potato, start with 5-6 minutes. For 2 medium-sized potatoes, start with 10-11 minutes microwave time. For 4 potatoes, start with 15-16 minutes in the microwave. When the time is up, get a towel or oven mitt and gently squeeze the sides of the potato. If it gives without resistance and starts to open up, it's ready. If it still seems a bit firm, return to the microwave for another minute at a time until tender.

Microwave Baked Potatoes

Simple &amp; easy, soft and delicious yukon gold yellow potatoes cooked in microwave quickly in few minutes.

Cut the potatoes in half and cut through the skin of the potatoes to make a few cuts across the potatoes (you have to pierce the potatoes through the skin a little, but not too deep).

Add the oil, garlic powder and salt and mix in with the potatoes.

Arrange the seasoned potatoes in a good quality microwave safe plate (do not use plastic plates or paper plates, I recommend using good quality microwaveable ceramic plates).

Microwave in high for 3 minutes.

Give a couple of minutes of cooling time, then flip the potatoes and microwave in high for another 3 more minutes.

After giving a cool off time again for a couple of minutes, microwave for another 1 more minute so the potatoes will turn soft and delicious with the perfect texture.

Allow the cooked potatoes to cool down as the potatoes will be really hot at this point, slightly slice and top with black pepper powder or add shredded cheese or butter (or any of your favorite seasonings), serve warm!

2 potatoes: 7-8 mins

3 potatoes: 9-11 minss

4 potatoes: 12-14 mins

Check for doneness by piercing with a fork—it should slide in easily.

Microwave on High

Let it rest for 1-2 minutes to finish steaming. Slice open and fluff with a fork before adding toppings.

Have been making my baked potatoes this way for years. Always come out great. You clever thing, you. 

Only one bit of advice: when oiling the potato make sure it’s bone dry. The water reacts with the oil and starts popping in the microwave. Never a good thing. Can possibly break the microwave, not that I’ve ever done that of course…

Of coure baked potatoes are good in the oven,  But, these are just as good.

How to make perfect Microwave Baked Potato! This recipe shows you the tips and tricks for how to cook a potato in the microwave in 10 mins.

​​Wash the potatoes and pierce each one with a fork a few times on each side.

Place the potatoes onto a large, microwave-safe plate and cover them with two wet paper towels.

Cook on high for 5 minutes, then turn each one over (careful, they’ll be hot!).

The thing is... microwaved potatoes look shrivelled , even if they are not overcooked. I don't pierce the skin before I microwave a potato. I wash a large baking potato well, leave it wet and wrap in a couple of layers of paper towel, Parchment paper might be good, (no bleach in the paper) and set it on a microwave safe plate, then into the oven for two minutes and wait for two minutes of so. Then I turn them over and go for another two minutes and a two minute wait. Then turn again. I might continue until it feels about done. It depends on how big it is. Someone said 210 degrees internal temperature. I let it stand for a little while before cutting.  I'm usually timing it to be ready with the rest of my meal.                                                    The skin is smooth and the water is still inside, it's steaming inside slowly. It didn't burst open because the temperature came up, somewhat gradually, much as it would in a conventional oven, but still much faster. The inside stays moist in it's own liquid. You could always crisp the skin in a toaster oven to make it even more like a 45 minute oven potato. I had a friend who was gifted this little quilted bag made to be used in this very way for potatoes in the microwave. Don't poke them with a fork. They will dry out and get strange if you overcook them.

This is SUCH a time saver! All these years I've turned on the oven and baked potatoes for 40 minutes - gah!

THis makes such a quick baked potato!  It's so perfect for when we're in a rush!
