This next level grilled cheese is dusted in powdered sugar and served with a side of jam for the perfect finish!

white bread

mayonnaise

swiss cheese

yellow mustard (optional)

Place 2 slices of bread on a cutting board. Spread mayonnaise on each slice of bread. Top with a slice of cheese, and 2 slices of ham. Add the second slice of bread and spread with a little bit of mustard if desired. Add 2 slices of turkey and a slice of cheese. Add the 3rd piece of bread.

Using a cutting board or the bottom of a frying pan, gently press the sandwich.&nbsp;Cut off crusts (to help seal the sandwich).

In a small bowl mix together milk, eggs and salt &amp; pepper until combined. Dip sandwich into egg mixture.

Preheat skillet over low heat and add butter. Add sandwich and cook 4-6  minutes. Flip and cook 4-5 minutes more or until cooked through and melted.

Dust with powdered sugar if using. Serve warm with strawberry jam.

Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

In a separate bowl, combine the milk and egg thoroughly.&nbsp;

Add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients and combine until there are no lumps. The batter should be fairly runny, yet still thick enough to stick to the sandwich. If needed, add a teensy bit more milk.

Make the sandwiches by layering a slice of Swiss cheese, then the 4 meat slices, then Swiss cheese, top with the remaining slice of bread. Putting cheese on either side of the meat ensures a beautiful melty goodness when you are done! Leave the sandwiches whole for frying, as you lose the cheesy goodness inside otherwise. Only slice them after they are cooked up!&nbsp;

Place a toothpick on each corner of the sandwich.

Dip the whole sandwich in the batter, covering the surface completely and fry in 340 degrees Fahrenheit oil until golden. The Texas toast will take longer to heat up the inside, thus the lower frying temperature. If you are using normal bread, you can go up to around 360 degrees Fahrenheit for frying.&nbsp;

Remove and drain on paper towels.&nbsp;

Monte Cristo Original Disneyland Recipe

Canola or Vegetable Oil

all-purpose flour

Fill a medium size saucepan just over 1/4 full with Canola or Vegetable oil. Heat to 375 degrees F.

To prepare the batter, place flour, baking powder and salt in a large mixing bowl, stirring to combine. Stir in water and egg, mixing until well combined.

To prepare sandwiches, layer bottom slices of bread with a slice of Swiss cheese, 2 slices of turkey, 2 slices of ham and another slice of Swiss Cheese. Close with top slice of bread then cut into fourths. Place a toothpick in each sandwich slice.

Coat all sides of sandwich triangle with batter. I used a spoon to help coat both sides, instead of dipping. Carefully place one sandwich at a time in hot oil. Cook each side until golden brown. Remove and place onto a paper towel lined plate to drain oil. Continue until all have been coated.

Dust warm sandwiches with powdered sugar, cut in half and place onto a serving plate with grapes, a few strawberries and blackberry jam for dipping.  Enjoy warm.

Air Fryer Monte Cristo Sandwich

Preheat your air fryer to 380F for 7 minutes. In the meantime, in a wide mixing bowl combine the pancake mix with the egg, milk and water.

Stir until you have a thick pancake batter – you want it to be thicker than your normal batter, not watery, so gradually mix in the water and the milk. Set aside.

Assemble the sandwiches like this: On a piece of bread place 2 slices of cheese, then add 4 slices ham then 2 more cheese and then the second piece of bread.

Gently use your palm to press down on the sandwich. Carefully, at an angle slide in 4 toothpicks on every edge of the bread to hold the sandwich together. By now the air fryer should have finished preheating, place an air fryer paper liner into the basket and close without turning back on.

Dip the assembled sandwich into the pancake batter and coat well on one side then gently flip over and coat on the second side. Lift up and allow excess batter to run off (don’t skip this step). Then place on top of the liner paper into the air fryer basket.

Set time for 7 minutes at 380 degrees. Then flip over and set temperature to 360F and time to 1 minute, just to finish browning and cooking the second side. (timing will vary slightly depending on how thick your batter is)

Remove from air fryer, pull out the toothpicks and keep warm by wrapping in a container with aluminum foil and continue to cool all of the sandwiches. 

To serve, dust each sandwich with as much powdered sugar as desired then slice in half and serve with a little bit of raspberry preserves for dipping into. Enjoy!
