Heat your wok over high heat, and add the oil. Sear the beef until just browned, remove from the wok, and set aside.

Add the garlic and red pepper to the wok and stir-fry for about 20 seconds. Add the onions and stir-fry until browned and slightly caramelized.

Toss the beef back in, along with the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, and sugar. Stir-fry for another few seconds, and then fold in the Thai basil until it’s just wilted. Serve with jasmine rice, and garnish with cilantro.

Thai Basil Beef

In a small bowl combine chili paste, soy sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar and lime juice until incorporated, set aside.Heat oil in a large skillet set over medium high heat

Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon and stirring often, about 6 minutes.Add the bell pepper, onion and garlic to the beef and cook until vegetables start to soften, about 5 minutes

Pour the sauce mixture along with the fresh basil (reserving a fresh few leaves for the top) and continue cooking until basil starts to wilt

Serve over rice topped with fresh basil and fresh cilantro

In a wok or large skillet over medium high heat add the oil, shallots, garlic, ginger and bell peppers and fry for 3 minutes.

Push the veggies off to the side. Turn the heat to high and add the ground beef, breaking it up into small bits with a spoon. (I like to spoon the cooked ground beef into my food processor and pulse it barely a few times to break it into really small pieces).

In a small bowl stir together the brown sugar, fish sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, chili paste, cornstarch, beef broth and water and add to the pan. Cook for 2 minutes.

Add the basil, and stir-fry until wilted.

Serve over hot cooked rice.

Thai Basil Beef Stir Fry

skirt steak (thinly sliced)

Slice skirt steak as thinly as possible then season well with sea salt and pepper

Heat oil in a wok pan or large cast iron skillet. When the pan is hot add in beef in a single layer. Cook for about 4-6 minutes on each side or until the beef is nice and browned. *do not stir the beef* Transfer beef to a plate.

Add the onion, garlic and bell peppers and sauté until softened.

In a large wok or skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until it's fragrant and slightly golden.

Add the beef to the pan. Increase the heat to high and let the beef brown without stirring too much. This helps to develop a nice crust and deep flavor. Cook until the beef is just slightly done.

Throw in the Fresno chilies and give everything another good stir. Continue cooking on high heat. The chilies will add a subtle heat and a pop of color to the dish. If the beef becomes too dry, add a bit of water.

Add fish sauce, sprinkle sugar over the beef, and stir everything together.

Turn off the heat and immediately add the basil leaves. The residual heat will wilt the basil just enough without overcooking it.

10 oz bags Frozen Steamed Jasmine Rice (or 6 cups of cooked jasmine rice)

Make the peanut garnish by tossing the chopped peanuts together with chili crisp, lime zest and juice, and cilantro. Set aside.

Start the broth by adding the powdered peanut butter, curry paste, and about 1/2 cup of broth to a small sauce pan over medium heat. Whisk until smooth before adding the remaining broth and coconut milk. Bring to a simmer before reducing the heat to low. Keep warm until ready to serve.

Make the beef by browning the ground beef in a pan over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes on one side. Once a nicely browned crust forms, break the beef apart and fully cook. Add the remaining beef ingredients to the cooked beef and cook until the sauce thickens and the basil wilts, another 2-3 minutes.

Serve. Plate the rice and top with the beef and peanut garnish. Ladle the broth around the edges and garnish with lime wedges and extra cilantro, if desired.

Looks like more work than it is. I would say hooray for separate components to please picky eaters, but my picky eater actually likes everything in this one. So hooray for that!
