This creamy golden milk recipe features turmeric and other warming spices blended with cashews, so it's dairy free and easily vegan. Enjoy hot or cold! Recipe yields 5 cups, enough for 5 drinks.

Creamy Golden Milk (Hot or Iced)

raw, unsalted cashews (soaked

water, divided

turmeric

cinnamon

ginger

cardamom

twists of black pepper

salt

honey

vanilla extract

Whether soaked or not, rinse the cashews until the water runs clear. In your blender, combine the cashews with 2 cups of the water. Add all of the remaining ingredients (turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, pepper, salt, honey and vanilla).

Start on a low setting and increase the speed until the cashews are blended into creamy oblivion. This could take 2 minutes in a high-powered blender or longer in a regular blender.

Blend in 2 cups more water until creamy. Taste, and if the mixture tastes too fiery, you can blend in a bit more sweetener (though the flavors seem to mellow a bit with time).

To serve cold, fill a drinking glass with ice and pour the golden milk on top. Or to serve warm, gently heat your desired quantity in a saucepan on the stove over medium-low heat until steaming, stirring often (don&#8217;t overdo it, or the texture won&#8217;t be as nice). Store leftover golden milk in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Thanks for this recipe! I was unfamiliar, but it is delicious. I use almond milk and freshly ground ginger and turmeric for more intense flavors. I use coconut sugar syrup because I have it, instead of maple syrup. I love this cold and will try warm, perhaps with a cinnamon stick. Per other post, to be naughty, adding an adult beverage may expand possibilities. Let you know later! Thanks again for this recipe, new for me.

Kate, another masterpiece. You can't go wrong with turmeric, cardamom, pepper, cinnamon,  and ginger. I can't remember the last time I had a cold; I think it was 4-5 years ago.

This is so funny, Kate! When I gave up coffee last year, I desperately longed for a drink that would fill the void of my daily latte habit. Your recipe above is literally one I also created from scratch, with two exceptions: I always use maple syrup, rather than honey, and I use nutmeg instead of cardamom. Otherwise, identical! And it is an elixir of the gods! Seeing your recipe tickled me because I cook from your wonderful blog and cookbook all of the time—just made your pumpkin muffins (again) a few days ago!

Hi Kate - I made a half batch of this recipe this morning (I was a bit uncertain about the taste to go for a full batch). I soaked the cashews overnight, and used the full amount of cinnamon and honey, and heated it. The flavour was better than I expected, the consistency was creamy, and the colour, beautiful. Nice recipe!

Yummy! I needed to add 2 extra tablespoons of honey. Question: my first two cups blended made a lot of soapy foam. Did this happen to anyone else or was there some soap in my blender? Freaked me out

Golden Milk (or Turmeric Milk) is an ancient Ayurvedic drink that&#039;s known for its anti-inflammatory properties. This recipe is optimized for absorption and tastes perfectly balanced. Rich with flavor, yet light and comforting.

Authentic Golden Milk (Turmeric Milk Tea)

water

whole milk (almond, soy

turmeric powder ((See Note 1))

green cardamom (slightly cracked open)

clove

1- inch piece cinnamon stick

black peppercorns

star anise (optional)

tsp vanilla extract

ginger (optional)

tsp ghee

Heat a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring all of the ingredients except coconut oil/ghee and sweetener to a simmer.

Stir well and lower the heat to a low or low-medium (you want it to simmer but not boil). Cover with the lid ajar and allow the milk to simmer for 5 minutes, depending on how strong you want the flavor of the spices (up to 10 minutes).

Turn off the heat and strain into your cup. Stir in coconut oil/ghee (if using) as well as your sweetener. Delight in the warmth and comfort of therapeutic golden milk.

Authentic Golden Milk (Turmeric Milk)

Turmeric Milk is a traditional, age old healthy Indian drink made with milk, turmeric powder and a bit of black pepper. It is also referred to as ‘Golden Milk,’ because of its sparkling medicinal properties, especially as an immunity boosting drink.

Turmeric Milk | Golden Milk (Haldi Doodh)

milk (- whole milk)

turmeric powder ((ground turmeric))

black pepper powder (or crushed black pepper)

Heat milk in a saucepan on a low to medium flame.

Simmer the milk for 2 to 3 minutes or until it boils. Once the milk starts boiling, turn off the heat.

Pour the hot milk in a glass or mug.

Add turmeric powder and black pepper powder.

Stir and mix very well.

Serve Turmeric Milk hot or warm.

This divine golden milk or turmeric latte warms you from within, warding off colds and infections while boosting the metabolism. Taken just before bedtime, it helps you sleep better. This super antioxidant, anti-inflammatory beverage is also superbly delicious with the alluring flavors of cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and saffron.

Golden Milk

non dairy milk ((I used oat milk))

almonds ((skin on))

tbsp raw cashews

saffron

ginger ((grated))

chai masala

sugar

Place the milk in a blender along with the saffron and nuts. Blend until very smooth. (You can skip this step if you aren&#39;t adding nuts. Just add the saffron to the milk in the saucepan.)

Add the blended milk to a saucepan along with all of the remaining ingredients. Let the turmeric milk infuse with the spices over low or medium low heat until the milk is just about to boil.

Turn off the heat and let the golden milk stand, covered, for five more minutes. Strain into cups and enjoy!

Turmeric, ashwagandha and chamomile are the sleep-inducing ingredients for a great night rest without pills.

A Turmeric Golden Milk for A Better Sleep

chamomile tea (warm)

almond milk (hot)

turmeric powder

tsp ashwagandha

tsp virgin coconut oil

tsp grated ginger

Black Peppercorns (crushed)

cinnamon powder

tsp cardamom powder

tsp raw organic honey

In a mortar add the turmeric, cinnamon, grated ginger, cardamom, ashwagandha, peppercorns and coconut oil, and mix with a pestle to obtain a paste. Add one or two chamomile teaspoons if necessary.

Divide the paste into two mugs, and pour over hot almond milk and chamomile tea.

Mix to combine and serve warm.

This is a healthy, vividly flavorful, vibrant and dramatically yellow Indian drink made from milk, plenty of turmeric and other inviting spices. It can be served warm and soothing or cold and refreshing.

unsweetened almond milk, (rice milk, coconut milk beverage,

Tbsp virgin coconut oil

tsp ground ginger

nutmeg

cloves

tsp black pepper

In a large saucepan or medium pot whisk together milk, honey, coconut oil, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, and black pepper.

Heat over medium heat just until simmering. Reduce heat to low (should just be a light simmer), cover and let simmer 5 minutes.

Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and let steep off heat for 5 minutes. Then serve once cool enough to your liking.

If you would like to serve the drink iced rather than warm, chill in the fridge overnight then serve over ice in glasses.

Turmeric Milk Recipe (Haldi Doodh)

whole milk ((full fat milk from cow))

ground black pepper

organic sugar ((jaggery

⅛ teaspoon ground green cardamom ((or 1 crushed green cardamom))

⅛ teaspoon ground cinnammon ((or ¼ inch Ceylon cinnamon))

ginger ((sonth/sonti))

((crushed))

Traditional turmeric milk is made by bringing Cow&#39;s milk to a boil first. Pour milk to a pot and bring it to a gentle boil. If you want to use all the other optional spices, add them and boil for 2 mins. (read my notes below)

Turn off and cool down the milk to a slightly hot temperature. Add ground black pepper (powder) and turmeric. Mix well.

Transfer turmeric milk to a cup and consume while still warm. You may filter/strain the milk if you use other whole spices. Add sweetener if required. If using honey add it only when the milk comes down to warm temperature.

How to Make Turmeric Milk

Turmeric chelates iron and dairy blocks absorption. Not good if you have anaemia
