Beat the softened butter over medium speed with an electric mixer until soft and creamy. Continue to beat over medium speed as you gradually add the powdered sugar. Stop the mixer and scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula as needed to fully incorporate all of the sugar.

Once butter and sugar have come together, add the vanilla. Beat in the heavy cream or milk 1 Tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached. This frosting is perfect for piping, or for simply spreading onto cakes and cupcakes!

Small Batch Vanilla Cupcakes

All-Purpose Flour

Baking Powder

Salt

Unsalted Butter (room temperature)

Sugar

Large Egg (room temperature)

Vanilla Bean Paste or Vanilla Extract

Milk

Powdered Sugar (sifted)

Heavy Whipping Cream

Vanilla Extract

Adjust your oven rack to the 2nd level position (just above center). Preheat your oven to 350ºF and line a cupcake tin with 6 cupcake liners. I placed mine in the middle section of the tin.

Using your hand-held mixer or stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, mix together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, unsalted butter, granulated sugar and egg on medium-high speed until well blended (about 1 minute). Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.

Add in the vanilla bean paste and milk, and mix until just combined (about 30 seconds). The batter should be easily scoopable and on the thinner side, but not runny.

Using a medium-size cookie scoop (or a serving spoon and regular size spoon), evenly divide the batter into the cupcake liners.

Bake for 18-20 minutes at 350ºF. They should be a nice golden yellow color with a slight dome to the top.

Cool the cupcakes in the tin for 5-10 minutes. Remove and allow to cool completely before frosting.

Reduce the mixer speed to low and add in the sifted powdered sugar, heavy whipping cream, vanilla extract, and salt, mixing until fully combined. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.

Fill a medium size piping bag fitted with the Wilton 1A piping tip (or one of your choosing) and pipe the frosting onto each cooled cupcake.

Top with sparkling sugar, berries, sprinkles, or other toppings of your choosing!

Water

Vegetable Oil

Large Eggs (room temperature)

Semi-Sweet Mini Chocolate Chips (coated in 1 tbsp all-purpose flour)

Sifted Powdered Sugar

Semi-Sweet Mini Chocolate Chips

Adjust oven rack to the 2nd level position (just above center) and preheat the oven to 350ºF.

Spray 2, 8 inch cake pans with a flour-based baking spray and set aside. You may also wish to add parchment paper circles and/or cake strips.

In a medium-size mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

In large size mixing bowl, whisk together the whole milk, water, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and eggs.

Slowly whisk in the dry ingredients with the wet and mix until just combine, then fold in the flour coated semi-sweet mini chocolate chips. Do not over mix the cake batter.

Evenly pour into the 2 prepared 8 inch cake pans and bake side-by-side for 35-40 minutes at 350ºF or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean (my oven took 40 minutes).

When done, allow the cakes to cool for 10 minutes before inverting the cakes onto wire cooling racks. Make sure the cakes have cooled completely before frosting.

Cakes can be double wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and kept at room temperature or in the refrigerator for up 3 days. If planning to freeze, double wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and place them in a large freezer bag. Cakes can remain in the freezer for up to a month. When ready, take the cakes out of the freezer and frost.

Switching the speed to low, add in the sifted powdered sugar one cup at a time until blended. Then add in the vanilla extract and heavy cream. Stir the mini chocolate chips using a spatula. If making the frosting in advance, wait to add the chocolate chips until you&#039;re ready to frost the cake.

Gradually add small amounts of cream or milk or water at a time until the desired consistency is reached. Continue to beat at a medium speed until light and fluffy. Scrape down the bowl once more and beat again to make sure all the ingredients are incorporated.

(Optional) Add a pinch of salt if too sweet and mix until completely dissolved.

How to Make Buttercream Frosting | Wilton

This is my favorite vanilla buttercream. It's the perfect vanilla frosting that's simple, creamy and smooth and tastes unbelievable on vanilla cupcakes!

(230 grams) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature

(60 milliliters) heavy cream, half-and-half,

salt,

With a handheld or stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, beat the butter on medium speed until creamy, about 2 minutes. Add 4 and 1/2 cups confectioners&#8217; sugar, the heavy cream, and vanilla extract. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, then increase to medium-high speed and beat for 2 full minutes. Taste. Add a pinch of salt if frosting is too sweet. I always add 1/8 teaspoon.

Adjust if needed

You can control the consistency at this point—add up to 1/2 cup more confectioners&#8217; sugar if frosting is too thin or more heavy cream if frosting is too thick (add only 1 Tablespoon at a time, beat together, then taste and add more if desired).

Use immediately or cover tightly and store for up to 1 week in the refrigerator or up to 3 months in the freezer. After freezing, thaw in the refrigerator then beat the frosting on medium speed for a few seconds so it’s creamy again. After thawing or refrigerating, beating in a splash of heavy cream or milk will help thin the frosting out again, if needed.

Easy recipe, super yummy. Definitely makes a difference using heavy cream.

I love the taste but it turned out really runny. I tried adding more confectioner's sugar to thicken it and tried to make it colder to thicken it but it was so runny when I put it on the cupcakes. It ended up looking like I just dipped the cupcakes in a bowl of icing. I don't know if I did something wrong but it definitely didn't come out as good as the other commenters say theirs did.

Delicious! I halved the sugar content and it was just right (for me anyways) after I placed it in the piping bag I put the bag in the fridge for an hour to make up for the hardness I lost with the sugar and the consistency was perfect.

First time attempting  frosting and this one worked. I didn’t use exact measurements as i cut in half to test first. It held and tasted great with the almond extract. Next time i make it i will use less sugar to my liking but this one is yummy!: thank you
