This Japanese Beef and Rice recipe will be a great addition to your Takikomi Gohan collection. It is very easy to make and the rice is full of beef flavour. It is so delicious that you don’t need anything to go with it.Prep Time does not include time to soak rice.Don&#039;t forget to see the section &#039;MEAL IDEAS&#039; below the recipe card! It gives you a list of dishes that I have already posted and this recipe that can make up a complete meal. I hope it is of help to you.

Japanese Beef and Rice (Beef Takikomi Gohan)

short grain rice ((note 1))

ginger (minced)

tsp oil

soy sauce

mirin

tbsp cooking sake

Wash rice and prepare for it as per How to Cook rice The Japanese Way up to the steps just before cooking. Reduce the amount of water in the pan by 50ml. (note 3)

If the beef slices are large, cut them into about 4cm x 7cm / 1½“ x 3&quot; strips.

Heat oil in a frying pan over medium high heat.

Add ginger to the pan and cook for 30 seconds or so, then add the beef.

Sauté the beef, separating each slice, until most of the beef slices turns brown.

Add the Flavouring ingredients to the pan and bring it to a boil. Remove the pan from the heat.

Drain the sauce from the pan into a measuring cup, leaving the beef in the pan. You should have about 50ml of the sauce (note 4).

Add the sauce to the pan with the rice and mix, ensuring that the colour of the liquid is even.

Place the beef on the rice spreading gently to cover the surface of the rice.

Cook the rice as per the instructions in How To Cook Rice The Japanese Way.

When mixing the rice, ensure that the beef pieces are evenly scattered. Serve while hot.

red capsicum / bell pepper (, diced (large))

(1 lb) ground beef (mince) (, lean)

tomato paste

tsp EACH cumin, black pepper

tsp each onion powder, dried oregano (or other herb of choice)

cayenne pepper ((optional))

bay leaf

(225 grams) long grain white rice

beef broth (, low sodium)

baby spinach

Heat oil in large pot over high heat. Add onion, capsicum and garlic. Cook for 1 minute.

Add beef, cook until brown, breaking it up as you go.

Add tomato paste, salt, pepper, onion powder, oregano, cumin and cayenne pepper. Cook for 1 minute.

Turn heat down to medium. Add rice and beef broth, mix well. Add frozen veggies and bay leaf, then stir.

Place lid on, lower heat to medium low so it's simmering gently. Cook for 12 - 15 minutes (might even take longer) until all liquid is absorbed (tilt pot to check). The rice should be just cooked, but will be wet.

Remove from heat. Quickly toss spinach on top of the rice and put the lid back on. Leave to rest for 10 minutes.

Fluff rice and mix through wilted spinach with a fork. Adjust salt if desired. Serve!

Heat

Heat the vegetable oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

Meat

Add the minced beef and liver to the pan. Cook the meat thoroughly, stirring often.

Rice

Cook the rice until it&#39;s a little bit mushy. This will make it easier for your cat to digest.

Cool

Combine

In a large bowl, combine your meat, rice, and mineral and salt substitutes. Stir until the food is evenly mixed.

Divide

Divide the cat food into even portions. Store your leftovers in the freezer.

Heat large non-stick skillet with deep sides over medium-high heat.

Cook

Cook ground beef, onion, garlic and taco seasoning until beef is browned.

Stir in

Stir in tomato sauce, salsa, brown rice and water.

Boil

Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium, cover and cook until rice is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed, about 10 minutes.

Remove

Top with shredded cheese, chopped lettuce, sour cream, chopped tomatoes, sliced jalapenos and cilantro leaves or your favorite toppings.

Serve

Serve on it’s own or in taco shells or tortillas!

This Instant Pot dirty rice is our version of a popular Creole dish with ground beef, bacon, onions, peppers and celery and a tasty mix of Cajun spices. It's a one-pot, family-friendly dish that can be served a with a side salad, coleslaw or steamed greens. We used a 6-quart Instant Pot for this recipe.

Instant Pot Dirty Rice

Worcestershire sauce

Turn the Instant Pot and press the Saute function key. Once hot, add the oil, onions, celery, peppers and bacon and cook for 2 minutes, stirring a couple of times.

Add garlic and beef and cook for 2 more minutes, breaking the meat apart with a spatula until its color turned from red/pink to greyish.

Add 1.25 cups of well-rinsed rice, about 2 tablespoons of Cajun spice mix (see notes), a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce and 350 ml of veggie or chicken stock. Mix through and press Cancel to stop the Saute function.

Pop the lid on top, lock and make sure the top valve is pointing to Sealing. Press Manual/Pressure Cook and set the time to 4 minutes at HIGH pressure. The Instant Pot will take 5-8 minutes to build up the pressure first. Once the timer is finished, allow about 5 minutes for natural pressure release (NPR) but not much longer as the rice will keep cooking.

Use the quick release (point the valve to Venting) to let off the remaining pressure and open the lid. Stir through the rice and serve garnished with chopped scallions and parsley. We topped our rice with some fried shallots as well.

This is one of the tastiest recipes I have ever made in my instant pot!

Tastes great! but way too spicy for my family’s and I only did 1 tbsp and 1 tsp. If your family isn’t a fan is spice I recommend cutting back on the Cajun seasoning quite a bit. We also swapped out the ground beef for smoked sausage.

I love this recipe! I’ve made it quite a few times now. We like spice in our house so I added more Cajun spice. The bacon is a great touch!!

INSTANT POT DIRTY RICE

Recipe video above. This is an utterly delicious and easy way to turn a packet of beef mince into a cosy, satisfying one-pot dinner. Channeling Greek Moussaka flavours (but a fraction of the work!), this has soft juicy eggplant pieces and beef cooked in a red wine tomato broth that&#39;s heavy on the garlic and oregano, while the addition of rice turns this into a satisfying all-in-one dinner. I love how both the rice and eggplant soaks up all the beefy flavour of the tomatoey broth.Though not in Moussaka, I added a can of chickpeas for some texture contrast amongst all the soft rice/eggplant, plus it&#39;s a good-for-you low GI starch that will keep you feeling full for longer.

Moussaka beef rice pilaf

garlic (, finely minced)

tsp cooking salt / kosher salt ((for the beef))

oregano

300 grams/ 10 ounces eggplant ((~ 20cm/8" long),

pinot noir (or other dry red wine (optional))

basmati rice (, uncooked (Note 2))

/ 14 oz can chickpeas (, drained (or other beans of choice))

/ 14 oz can crushed tomato

chicken stock/broth (, low sodium)

tsp cooking salt / kosher salt ((for broth))

tsp black pepper

tbsp parsley (, finely chopped (optional))

Extra virgin olive oil (,

Greek yogurt (optional (not pictured but goes really well!))

⚠️ Eggplant cube size - Make sure they&#39;re no larger than 1.5 cm / 1/2&quot; max, else they may not cook through properly!

Cook beef - Heat the oil on a large pot over high heat. Add the onion and garlic, cook for 2 minutes. Add the beef and cook, breaking it up as you go, until you no longer see red. Add the 1/2 tsp salt and oregano. Cook for 1 minute. Add the tomato paste and cook for 1 minute (don&#39;t shortcut this step - Note 3).

Deglaze - Add the eggplant and the cubes are coated in the red beef juices. Add the wine, bring it to a simmer, stir (scrape the base of the pot) then let it mostly evaporate.

Broth - Add the rice and stir to coat. Add remaining ingredients, stir, bring to a simmer. Give it one last stir then once there are gentle bubbles all across the surface (not just around the edge), put the lid on and turn the heat down to medium low (or low, if using a strong stove).

Steam rice - Cook for 20 minutes, no peeking, no stirring! The liquid will be absorbed by the stage though there will be a layer of tomato on the surface (peek quickly!).

Rest - Remove the pot from the stove and rest for 10 minutes (lid still on) - residual liquid will be absorbed and the rice will finish cooking.

Eat! Toss the rice - it will be juicy but not mushy! Divide between bowls, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with parsley and enjoy!

I used lamb rather than beef, pre cooked the eggplant and added cinnamon. Mine needed a lot of extra liquid and cooking time to get the rice cooked, but once it was finished the result was delicious! Thanks Nagi.

Very satisfying on a winters night and really easy to prep. I did find it a tiny bit bland but this was easily rectified with a squirt of sriracha sauce and a sprinkle of crispy chilli oil on serving. Oh and crispy fried shallots  (they make everything tastier)

At the end of cooking I found that the Pilaf was a little bland.
I added 1/2 a jar of marinara sauce and saute spinach and was very satisfy after that.

Rice Cooker Beef Pepper Rice is a quick and easy one-pot recipe that brings the classic Japanese beef pepper rice to your kitchen! Juicy thinly sliced beef, sweet corn, buttery rice, and a flavorful yakiniku sauce come together for a sizzling meal—no hot plate needed. Perfect for a fast, satisfying dinner with minimal cleanup!

Rice Cooker Beef Pepper Rice

(150 g) Japanese short grain rice

garlic cloves, divided

beef stock

(120 g) corn

butter

2-2.5 tbsp soy sauce

oyster sauce

sake

Prepare the Rice: Rinse the rice until the water runs mostly clear (see how to wash rice for details). Add the rice to the rice cooker pot along with 1 1/2 tbsp yakiniku sauce. Add water just shy of the 1-cup line in your rice cooker (or about 1/2 cup if your rice cooker doesn’t have markings). Stir in 1 minced garlic clove and beef stock, then top with the corn. Start cooking on white rice mode.

Marinate the Beef: While the rice cooks, marinate the thinly sliced beef with the remaining yakiniku sauce, minced garlic, and black pepper.

Add the Beef: With 15 minutes left on the rice cooker timer, open the lid and place the marinated beef on top to finish cooking.

Note: If your rice cooker doesn&#8217;t allow you to open it before the cooking cycle is over or you are using beef slices thicker than 1 mm, add it at the beginning on top of the corn to ensure it fully cooks. 

Finish &amp; Serve: Once the rice is done, open the lid and mix in the scallions and butter. Let the butter melt, then toss everything together. Scoop into bowls and top with extra scallions, black pepper, and more butter if desired. Serve and enjoy!
