Don't let the name fool you these cheesy potatoes with a crispy buttery corn-flake crust always disappear so fast at parties! These are a family favorite and a really quick and easy side for any party, get together, or backyard BBQ!

Funeral Potatoes

lb bag of frozen southern style/diced hash browns

sour cream

chicken

(1/2 cup) of melted butter

cheddar cheese

Salt, Pepper, Garlic powder

corn flakes

TBSP of melted butter

Spray a 9x13 baking dish and preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Combine the diced hash browns, sour cream, cream of chicken, 1 stick of melted butter with shredded cheddar cheese, and add in some salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

Mix together well and pour into the baking dish.

Crush about 2 cups of corn flakes and spread over potatoes.

Pour 6 TBSP of melted butter over the top.

Bake at 350 degrees for about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes or until potatoes are cooked through and tender.

Oven Directions

Follow the above directions to mix potatoes together and put them in a smoker safe dish/pan.

Smoke on a smoker at 300 degrees for about 1 hour. Turn the heat up to 350 degrees and cook for another 20-30 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown and crispy. Enjoy!

This cheesy funeral potatoes recipe is a budget friendly casserole that might just become your family&#39;s new favorite side dish since it goes with everything!

hash brown potatoes (thawed) (see note)

butter (1 stick) (divided)

(10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup

garlic powder

salt

Pepper (to taste)

scallions (chopped)

cheddar (grated)

corn flakes (crushed)

Thaw the hash brown potatoes (you can let them sit on your counter for an hour or so or thaw them in the fridge overnight).

Preheat your oven to 350F and move the rack to the middle position.

Melt the butter in a small bowl in the microwave or in a small pan on the stove.

Add the potatoes to a 9x13 casserole dish.

To a medium prep bowl, add the sour cream, cream of chicken soup, 4 tablespoons of the melted butter (half of it), garlic powder, salt &amp; pepper, scallions, and cheese. Stir until combined.

Pour the mixture over the potatoes and toss until combined, then smooth them into an even layer.

Add the corn flakes to a large ZipLoc and crush them (use your hands or a rolling pin/bottle/etc.).

Mix the rest of the butter with the corn flakes (I do this in another bowl) then add the corn flake topping to the casserole.

Bake uncovered for 40-50 minutes or until hot and bubbly.

Another winner!! This may be my new go to potluck casserole! Thank you for another great recipe.

There are NEVER leftovers. I used shredded instead of cubed and shredded cheese on top instead of crushed cereal.
