This is the best puppy chow recipe! Why? More chocolate, more peanut butter, more powdered sugar! This childhood classic aka muddy buddies just got better. :)&nbsp;Plus, it uses the WHOLE box of cereal and the WHOLE bag of chocolate chips, so less measuring required!

Best Puppy Chow Recipe

(12 oz) box rice

(12 chocolate

peanut butter

unsalted butter ((1/2 cup = 1 stick))

vanilla extract

(2 lb) bag powdered sugar (or less

Place cereal into a large bowl. Set aside.

Place chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter in a large microwave safe bowl.&nbsp;

Microwave for 60 seconds and then stir until smooth. If the chocolate chips haven't melted enough, microwave at 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until the mixture is completely melted.&nbsp;

Stir in vanilla extract.

Pour the chocolate mixture over the chex cereal and stir together gently with a spatula. DO NOT OVER MIX. The chunks are the best part! The cereal pieces should be completely coated in chocolate, but it&#x27;s ok for a few to clump together.

Pour the powdered sugar over the mixture. Use as much or as little as you like, but I think this is best when no chocolate shows through. Gently stir to combine. Again, don&#x27;t over mix.

Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container!

In my recipe, the ingredients are the same, so what makes my puppy chow even better? The ratio! More chocolate, more peanut butter, more powdered sugar!

In a microwave dish, melt vanilla bark for one minute. Stir, heat an additional 30 seconds until creamy. Mix in the cherry gelatin mix.

In a large bowl mix together the cereal with melted chocolate. Stir until completely coated. Pour into a large gallon sized container with powdered sugar. Shake. Shake Shake. Pour onto a large baking sheet with foil, until set. Add sprinkles. Store in covered container up to two weeks. ENJOY!

Into a large bowl, measure cereal; set aside.

In a large microwave safe bowl, combine the peanut butter, chocolate chips, and butter. Microwave in bursts of 15 seconds, stirring in between each burst for 15 seconds until the mixture is melted and smooth. Add in the vanilla and salt. Pour over the prepared cereal. Stir well until the cereal is evenly coated.

Pour half of the cereal mixture into a gallon sized ziplock bag and pour half of the powdered sugar over it. Seal and shake until the cereal is evenly coated. Repeat with the other half of the cereal and powdered sugar in the same or a different bag. Shake until all the cereal is well coated!

Remove into a large bowl and enjoy! If desired stir in a fun addition such as mini M&amp;Ms or mini chocolate chips.&nbsp;

Store leftover muddy buddies in an airtight container at room temperature.

These Muddy Buddies, aka Puppy Chow, are a classic holiday treat everyone loves. No butter or peanut butter needed! 

The Best Muddy Buddies

Chex cereal (see note)

chocolate chips

vegetable oil (see note)

salt (I used sea salt)

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips and oil. Microwave in 20-second intervals until the chocolate chips start to melt. Stir until smooth.

Pour chocolate over cereal and stir gently to coat.

Place cereal in a ziploc bag (if you are using a regular size bag, not sandwich and not the large size, you can do this in batches), add 1/4 cup of powdered sugar, close the bag and shake. Check to see if the cereal is coated evenly. Add more sugar if needed. Place cereal in a bowl and repeat with remaining cereal.

Reindeer Chow Muddy Buddies is an easy, fun, and favorite holiday treat! With minimal ingredients and prep, you will be snacking on this treat in no time!

Cups Chex cereal

Melt the peanut butter and butter in a microwave safe dish. Microwave in 30 second intervals until butter is melted. Add the chocolate a little at a time until all is melted into the mix. You might need to microwave one last time to make sure everything is melted and add the vanilla. Stir together.

In a large bowl add half of the cereal. Drizzle half of the chocolate peanut butter mixture into the cereal in the bowl. Mix with a spoon.

Place one large paper bag into another one. Add 1/2 cup of the powdered sugar and half of the mixed cereal into the bag. Close this tightly and shake vigorously. Add more powdered sugar 1/2 cup at a time if needed until all the cereal is coated. Add 1/4 of the m&amp;ms into the bag and toss. Place in an air tight container.

Continue these step with the remaining ingredients.&nbsp;Keep stored in an airtight container. I personally love to keep it in the freezer, YUM!

Dark Chocolate Puppy Chow is the the best easy dessert recipe to feed a crowd! This version is loaded with chocolate &amp; peanut butter, and tossed in a mixture of cocoa powder &amp; powdered sugar to cut down on the sweetness and give it an even richer chocolate taste.

Dark Chocolate Puppy Chow

Rice Chex Cereal

cocoa powder

In a medium bowl, mix together the powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Set aside.

Melt peanut butter and chocolate together.  On the stovetop stir over low heat or a double boiler until mixture is smooth. In the microwave; warm on high for 60 seconds and stir. Then warm for increments of 30 seconds, stirring after each, until mixture is melted and homogenous.

Add 3 cups of cereal to a large bowl. Pour 1 cup of the chocolate/peanut butter mixture over the cereal.

Add 3 more cups of cereal to the bowl and then pour the rest of the chocolate/peanut butter mixture on top.

Stir until the cereal is evenly coated. If there are pools of chocolate/peanut butter at the bottom of your bowl, add more cereal 1/4 cup at a time until all that deliciousness is coating your cereal. Remember we WANT clumps, so do NOT add too much cereal!

Let the mixture cool slightly (Put the bowl in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes or outside on the porch on a cold day). Be sure to check it, as you do not want it to harden completely!

Once your mixture is at or slightly below room temperature, add 1 cup of the powdered sugar/cocoa powder mixture. Mix until combined.

Let cool for about 15 minutes.

Add more powdered sugar/cocoa powder 1/4 cup at a time until your cereal is coated to your satisfaction. Let it sit at room temperature to harden before serving (or toss it in the refrigerator to speed up the process)!

Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Classic puppy chow gets a makeover with decadent red velvet and colorful M&amp;M&#39;s. This red velvet puppy chow is perfect for everyday snacking or a festive gift.

Red Velvet Puppy Chow

semi-sweet chocolate (chips

dry red velvet cake mix

Chex cereal ((roughly 1 12 ounces box))

candy or sprinkles (optional)

Food Safety Step: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spread red velvet cake mix out on a baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes. Allow cake mix to cool completely before using.

In a microwave-safe bowl, add white chocolate and semi-sweet chocolate. Heat in the microwave for 1 minute, then stir. Continue to heat in the microwave for 30-second intervals until chocolate is soft. Using a whisk or a fork, stir chocolates together until smooth.

Add cream cheese and milk to chocolate, then whisk thoroughly, making sure that cream cheese is completely incorporated into the chocolate.

Add Chex cereal to a 13 quart mixing bowl. Pour chocolate mixture on top and gently stir with a spatula until all Chex cereal is coated. Set bowl aside.

Set a baking sheet nearby and cover with parchment paper.

Add dry red velvet cake mix and powdered sugar to a Ziploc bag (gallon sized), then shake bag to combine the sugar and cake mix together.

Working in batches (about 2-4 cups at a time), add the coated Chex cereal to the bag with the red velvet cake mixture, seal or twist the top of the bag closed, and then shake the bag until the Chex cereal is coated with the red velvet cake mixture. Remove finished red velvet puppy chow and spread out on prepared baking sheet. Repeat step until all the puppy chow is made. When finished, discard plastic bag and any dry red velvet cake mixture that remains inside.

Let red velvet puppy chow cool completely before eating. If desired, add candy or sprinkles to puppy chow to make it more festive. Once cooled, transfer to a sealed container and store for up to 5 days.

Melt together the chocolate, peanut butter, and butter either on the stovetop or in the microwave in the 30 second increments.  Add the vanilla and stir until well mixed.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate mixture with the cereal until it is well coated.  I like to use my hands for this part.

Divide the cereal mixture and the powdered sugar between two gallon storage bags.  Seal and shake until the powdered sugar has completely coated the cereal.

Spread the mixture onto a parchment lined baking sheet and allow to set.

Muddy Buddies aka Puppy Chow

(55 g) semisweet chocolate, (finely chopped, preferably

(67 g) creamy peanut butter

(60 ml) maple syrup

salt

(120 g) Rice Chex

(23 g) confectioners’ sugar

natural cocoa powder

Line a rimmed half-sheet pan with aluminum foil and lightly coat with nonstick spray; set aside.

Melt the chocolate in a large microwave safe bowl in the microwave. Whisk in peanut butter, maple syrup and salt until all combined. Fold in the cereal until evenly coated, then scrape out onto prepared pan in an even layer. Allow to sit at cool room temperature for several minutes just until the chocolate coating feels tacky to the touch. Place mixture in large zip-top bag, add confectioners’ sugar and cocoa to bag and shake, shake, shake! Pour out onto pan to cool completely. Muddy Buddies are ready to eat or pack into airtight container and store at cool room temperature for up to 3 days.

Measure cereal into a large bowl. Set aside. Divide powdered sugar between two ziplock bags, adding 1 cup to each bag.* Set aside.

In a saucepan add chocolate chips, butter, and peanut butter (and salt, if using unsalted butter) and cook over medium-low heat, stirring, until melted and smooth. (Don’t over-heat it--just warm it until melted and smooth.)

Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

Pour over the prepared cereal in the bowl and stir to coat evenly. Allow to cool for a few minutes.

Divide coated cereal between the two ziplock bags with powdered sugar, seal the bag and shake to coat the cereal.

Extra Good Puppy Chow

12-oz. box of rice Chex cereal (about 10 cups)

sugar (more as needed / desired)

In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter at 30 second intervals until smooth and melted.

Pour chocolate over cereal &#8211; this recipe makes a very large batch so I do this in two big bowls. 

Use a wooden spoon to gently mix the cereal with the chocolate, being careful not to break the cereal.

Place the chocolate coated cereal in the bag and add the powdered sugar over the top (yes, just dump it right in). Shake the bag gently to coat all the pieces with powdered sugar &#8211;  personally I like to go for a wet/dry hybrid approach for optimal clustering, rather than an each-piece-individually-coated-and-dry approach. 

Transfer to a couple of baking sheets, or just lay it out on parchment paper to cool and set. Store this in the freezer for the best clustering and most satisfying crunch!

My family tells me that this was divine.  I can't eat peanut butter after having my gallbladder removed several years ago so it is testing my willpower to not dig in!  Lol!

My opinion on freezing puppy chow has changed. Holy clusters, Batman!

Two big tips: mix the cereal and powder sugar IN the cereal BAG! you're going to throw that away anyway! I did mine in two batches in the and rolled the top and it worked great. Secondly, I added about 1/2 cup cocoa powder to the powdered sugar for an extra chocolate boost and a moody coating. Sooooo good
