Add all ingredients in a blender and just 1 cup of ice to start.

Blend until a smooth and thickened texture is achieved, about 30 to 60 seconds. Add more ice for a thicker texture, up to 2 cups total.

Add more milk as needed to thin out smoothie to desired consistency.

Healthy Orange Julius Smoothie

For a thick smoothie, be sure your banana is completely frozen prior to making a smoothie. I also only use 1/4 cup of liquid to keep things on the thicker side.

Add peeled oranges, frozen banana, ice cubes, your choice of milk (can sub orange juice for a sweeter smoothie), optional protein powder, and vanilla to a blender. This works best in a high speed blender, but can be made in a good quality standard blender.

Blend until the oranges are completely smoothie and the smoothie is thick and creamy. Top with a dollop of yogurt or coconut cream, if desired.

First soak your pitted dates in 1 cup of very warm water for at least 5 minutes. This will help them soften up and perfect for blending. While the dates are soaking you can get all your other ingredients out, measured and ready.

I didn't have whole milk so I used half cup cream, half cup water and I threw in an egg white. It was frothy, cool, and creamy. I think it could be even more orangey, but it was still deliciously refreshing after a walk on one of our hottest days of the year so far. I think the egg white has a nice textural and flavor component. Overall this reminds me of an orange dream bar, my favorite ice cream novelty as a kid.

this is definitely the original recipe as I remember it when I was a kid and it is delicious took forever to find this because all the other recipes kept wanting me to put almond milk or skim milk. Disgusting and not even use sugar. I was like nope that taste horrible. This recipe is the best.

I miss Orange Julius so much, a childhood fave, and have made many copycat Orange Julius recipes over the years. This version is hands down the easiest and most delicious! I only had 2% milk on hand so added a couple of tablespoons of heavy whipping cream in place of an equal amount of milk and that really takes it over the top, highly recommended the added richness and foamy texture that the cream adds. Love!!
