This classic whiskey sour is made from scratch with fresh lemon juice simple syrup and a dash of egg has a full-bodied flavor, and lots of zing to compliment your favorite whiskey.

Whiskey Sour

oz bourbon (60 milliliters)

oz fresh lemon juice (22 milliliters)

oz simple syrup (15 milliliters)

oz egg white (14 grams, optional)

Angostura bitters

Pour the bourbon, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup and egg white into a cocktail shaker.

Close and shake vigorously.

Strain the drink into a coupe glass.

Add a few splashes of Angostura bitters.

Make simple syrup by heating water and granulated sugar of medium heat until all sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat, add pomegranate seeds, and allow to cool completely. Run through blender and then strain through fine mesh strainer. Discard seed solid and keep the pink syrup.

To make the cocktail, combine bourbon whiskey, lemon juice, and pomegranate simple syrup in a shaker with ice. Vigorously shake until well combined, about 20 seconds. Strain into a low ball ice with extra large ice cubes.

Maple Whiskey Sour

oz Canadian rye whiskey

maple syrup

Coffee Pecan Bitters (Angostura will work)

Rub the lemon wedge in a wide stripe down the side of a coupe glass. Holding the glass over a side plate, dust with chipotle chili powder to create a red stripe.

To a cocktail shaker, add rye, lemon, maple syrup, and egg white. Shake hard without ice for 20-30 seconds. Add ice and shake again for another 20-30 seconds.

Strain into prepared glass. Garnish with three drops of bitters. Enjoy!

Combine the strawberries, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Allow berries to release juice by sitting in the liquid at least 30 minutes.

Add the strawberry mixture to the blender and run it on low (I used the sauce feature on my Blendtec). You can really blend it as much/little as you like, but I found this mode made it perfectly pulpy with a bit of foam. Add whiskey and swirl to combine.

Pour over ice and serve.

Mango Whiskey Sour Cocktail Recipe

Try this non-alcoholic take on a whiskey sour, made with Assam leaf tea for a bourbon-like flavour note. It’s just as impressive as the real thing

Whiskey sour mocktail

¾ tbsp sugar syrup

ice cubes

tsp Assam tea leaves

vanilla extract

First, make the infusion. Tip the tea leaves into a heatproof teapot or jug and pour over 150ml boiled water from the kettle. Immediately strain through a fine mesh sieve into a second heatproof jug, discarding the tea leaves, so the tea doesn’t become too strong. Add the vanilla and leave to cool.

Pour 50ml of the cooled tea infusion into a cocktail shaker, then add the lemon juice, egg white, sugar syrup and a handful of ice. Shake until the outside of the shaker feels very cold.

Strain the mocktail into an ice-filled tumbler, then garnish with a slice of lemon and a cocktail cherry to serve in the style of a classic whiskey sour.
