How To Cook Shishito Peppers (With Two Dipping Sauces)

Whisk together the ingredients for each dipping sauce in two separate bowls. Cover and place in the fridge until needed.

Make the dipping sauces

Heat the oil in a large skillet on a high heat.

Once the oil is hot, add in the shishito peppers. Don&#039;t over crowd the pan and do it in two batches if needed. Sprinkle over the seasoning salt.

Cook the peppers for a couple of minutes before flipping them over. Continue to cook until the skins start to blister all over.

Serve immediately with the dipping sauces.

Heat a large cast iron skillet to high heat. Add the peppers to the dry skillet and cook, tossing occasionally, until tender and blistering, about 6 to 8 minutes. As you work, try to keep the peppers in a single layer so that they make consistent contact with the hot pan.

Drizzle the peppers with sesame oil, and sprinkle with sea salt and sesame seeds. Serve with tamari and peanut sauce, for dipping.

This restaurant-style appetizer takes just a few minutes to make at home, and the results are amazing. Serve blistered shishito peppers with a garlicky aioli for dipping.

Blistered Shishito Peppers with the Best Dip

Rinse peppers and dry thoroughly with paper towels. In a mixing bowl, toss the peppers together with the oil.

Heat a large 12” cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Let it heat for about 2 minutes or until the pan is hot and just starting to smoke. Carefully add peppers in a single layer and let them sear until blistered and browned on the first side, about 2-3 minutes.

Turn the peppers over with tongs and let them sear on the second side until blistered, about 2 minutes.

Transfer to a serving bowl and sprinkle to taste with salt and grate lemon zest over the top. Serve with aioli dipping sauce if desired.*

Blistered Shishito Peppers with Best Dip #shorts

This recipe for blistered shishito peppers is both easy and quick to make. It makes for a great side dish or can be served as an appetizer or snack alongside your favorite drinks. I also show you how to make a simple tangy and savory Japanese citrus ponzu sauce as a dipping sauce as well.

Easy Blistered Shishito Peppers With Dipping Sauce

g shishito peppers ((approx. 22 peppers))

sesame oil ((Optional))

lemon juice ((approx. ½ large lemon))

soy sauce

mirin ((or 1 teaspoon of sugar mixed with 2 tablespoons of water))

bonito flakes

In a small bowl, squeeze 2 tablespoons lemon juice into the bowl.If you like it very lemony, you can also zest 1/4 teaspoon of zest of the skin into the sauce as well. Make sure not to grate any of the white part of the skin (the pith) it&#39;s bitter.

Mix in 1½ tablespoons soy sauce and 2½ tablespoons mirin into the bowl. (If you don&#39;t have mirin, mix 1 teaspoon of sugar with 2 tablespoons of water to substitute it.)

Add in 1/4 cup bonito flakes and let it soak for at least 5 minutes. You can prepare the shishito peppers while the bonito flakes are soaking

After the bonito flakes had time to soak in the sauce, you can remove it and discard it.

Make the Ponzu Dipping Sauce

Wash the shishito peppers, and dry them very well with a tea towel or paper towel.

(Optional, but Highly Recommended) Puncture each shishito pepper with a toothpick or a fork at the tip. This will help the steam release during the blistering stage and not build up and burst, which can spray hot liquids on you.

Put the peppers in a bowl, and add 1 teaspoon oil. Use your hand and mix the peppers in the oil to coat them all very well.

Prepare the Shishito Peppers

On a cast iron pan, set the stove medium heat and let the pan get really hot. Make sure the pan is really hot before you put the peppers in, that is how you will get the blistering.If you are using a regular frying pan, set it to medium-high heat.Alternatively, you can also use a grill for this as well on medium heat.

Since you already oiled the peppers, you don&#39;t need to oil the pan.Add the shishito peppers into the pan, and spread them out so they are on a single layer.

Cook the peppers for about 5-6 minutes, flipping every 30 seconds to a 1 minute.If you are using a frying pan, you don&#39;t need to flip them as often and you may need to add 1-2 minutes more to the cooking time since it doesn&#39;t get as hot as a cast iron pan.

(Optional) Once the peppers are done cooking, toss them in ¼ teaspoon sesame oil and place them on a serving plate.

If you are not tossing them into sesame oil, remove them from the pan and plate it. Serve it with a side of dipping sauce, and enjoy!

Blistered Shishito Peppers with Spicy Shishito Sauce

TBSP avocado oil (or extra-virgin olive oil)

kosher salt (or flaked salt, to taste)

Wash peppers then rub/pat dry with a paper towel or clean kitchen towel to remove any moisture. We want them nice and dry.

Heat oil in large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat.

Add peppers and stir to coat them in the oil. I like using my cast iron skillet here.

Cook until they begin to blister on multiple sides, mixing around occasionally (every minute or so) for even blistering.

They should be done in approx. 8-12 minutes and you&#39;ll hear some sizzles and pops along the way. Cook to desired level of tenderness.

Season with kosher salt (or flaked salt) and enjoy!

To make this fiery dipping sauce, blend the above ingredients into a smooth sauce using an immersion blender (my fav tool ever) or a small food processor.

For a spicier sauce, add extra cayenne. You could even add a little sriracha or chili garlic sauce to the mix for both heat and flavor.

Spicy Shishito Sauce

We had tried these peppers in a neighborhood restaurant. My neighbor made a package for me that I had gotten from Giant Eagle. One for her and one for me. The sauce she used was: Sauce = light mayo, ketchup, thousand island and a little hot sauce 
She didn’t have cashews so she added roasted peanuts.

These peppers are one of my favorite snacks! I’ve even planted some in my garde. So I can have them on demand!

Heat a large cast iron skillet over medium high heat. Once hot, add oil. Once hot, add peppers, spreading them out in an even layer.

Cook undisturbed for 45 seconds or so, until browned on bottom. Turn them and continue cooking, turning them every so often, until blistered on all sides. Should take about 4-5 minutes.

A few seconds before removing them from heat, add ginger to the pan and sauté. Drizzle peppers with soy sauce and honey and toss to combine.

Remove to a plate and garnish with salt and sesame seeds.

Rinse the peppers and pat them dry with a paper towel. Transfer the peppers to a mixing bowl, drizzle with oil, and toss to coat.

Preheat a large skillet over medium heat until it’s hot enough that a drop of water sizzles and evaporates immediately. Add the peppers and let them cook, stirring only every minute or so, allowing them to char on the sides touching the pan.

Season with salt while cooking until the peppers are tender with plenty of charred spots, about 8 minutes. Take care not to overcook. The peppers should still have a bit of a crisp bite to them.

Transfer the peppers to a serving plate. Season with lemon juice, if desired. Sprinkle with a bit more salt, taste, and adjust salt as needed.
