Spiral ham is incredibly easy and perfect for serving on special occasions or for Christmas dinner.

How To Cook A Spiral Ham

Preheat oven to 250°F.

Remove packaging and if your ham has a small plastic disk on the underside of the bone, remove and discard the disk.

Place ham in a shallow roasting pan, cut side down.

Bake for 13-16 minutes per pound until ham reaches 140°F.

If adding ham glaze, add during the last 20 minutes of cooking.

Remove the ham from the oven and rest at least 15 minutes before cutting. Spoon juices over the ham before serving if desired.

Brown Sugar Spiral Ham

Remove ham from packaging and place on a serving dish or platter.

Let ham rest for 30 minutes, then brush with warm glaze (below).

If you prefer to warm it up, wrap ham in aluminum foil and place in a 200 degree oven.

Warm ham for 10 minutes per pound. Brush with glaze after removing from oven.

SPIRAL HAM

Add brown sugar and maple syrup to a skillet or pot on the stove. 

Stir in ground mustard, apple cider, orange juice, orange zest, cinnamon, cloves and minced garlic.

Cook for 3 minutes over medium heat until brown sugar melts. 

Mix cornstarch with water and add to mixture. Cook 1 more minute until glaze thickens. 

Brush warm glaze over the top and insides of ham.

Serve the rest of the glaze on the side in a small bowl.

Combine

Combine all glaze ingredients in a medium-sized saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, reduce heat to a simmer and cook, stirring often, 20-30 minutes, or until glaze is the consistency of syrup. Remove from heat and set aside.

For the Pineapple Ham Glaze:

Use a sharp knife to score the surface of the ham with 1/2-inch-deep slices spaced 1-inch apart. Cover and bake 1 hour.

Brush half the glaze over the ham, being sure to spread some down into each cut. Spread the crushed pineapple over the ham, again pressing down,&nbsp; and then pour half the remaining glaze over the surface. Bake the ham, uncovered, 15 minutes then repeat glazing as follows:

Baste

Continue cooking and glazing/basting the ham (once you have run out of glaze, just baste with the glaze from the bottom of the pan) every 10 minutes until the internal temperature registers 140° on an instant-read thermometer. This could take a total 40-60 minutes.

Glaze

honey

Remove ham from refrigerator at least 2 hours before cooking to come to room temperature

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F

In a medium saucepan, whisk together ingredients for glaze

Bring to simmer and cook for 1-2 minutes or until sugar dissolves

Unwrap ham and place in large roasting pan cut side down

Brush about ½ of the glaze over the ham

Wrap tightly with foil

Bake for 12-15 minutes per pound or until ham reaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees F

Remove from oven and remove foil

Brush remaining glaze over ham, be sure to get in between slices ** see notes

Return to the oven and continue cooking 10 minutes longer.

Remove from oven and loosely wrap with foil and let rest 15 minutes before serving

Holiday ham or lunch for the week. Either way this easy dutch oven spiral ham with homemade glaze will have your home smelling sweet and warm while your tastebuds applaud each flavor filled bite!

Dutch Oven Spiral Ham

Tablespoon balsamic vinegar

Preheat the oven to 250F. Remove the ham from its packaging and drain liquid. Transfer to a dutch oven.

Place in the oven and bake for half of the allotted time (15 minutes per pound). Then remove from the oven and cover with tinfoil, and place back into the oven for the remainder of the cooking time.

While the ham cooks, make the glaze. Add all the ingredients to a saucepot and whisk over medium-low heat until combined.

20 minutes before the ham is fully cooked, remove from the oven. Using a turkey baster, remove as much liquid as you can and dispose of it. Using a pastry brush, pour or brush the glaze onto the ham and coat completely. Return to the oven for the final 20 minutes to seal the glaze.

Remove from the oven again and let the ham rest in the dutch oven for 15-20 minutes. Cut and serve.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a large baking dish with cooking spray.

Add the butter, brown sugar, pineapple juice, honey, cinnamon and nutmeg to a medium sized pan. Place the pan over medium heat.

Bring the pan to a simmer and cook for 4-6 minutes or until glaze is syrupy.

Bake the ham for 2 hours, then uncover the ham.

what a fantastic recipe! I love how the sweetness of the brown sugar is balanced by the vinegar, and the mustard adds complexity beyond sweetness and acidity. I made only minor adjustments, using apple cider vinegar to better compliment the ham and I added a quarter cup of bourbon for added complexity, smokiness, and flavor that pairs well with the delicious bits of fatiness. I'll definitely be making this recipe next Easter!
